I wanted to distill essential oils but this thing did NOT come with any instructions to get it operational. The equipment is all wrong for steam distillation. The guy is not answering my emails for instructions to use it and I will be returning it as it does not fit my need. Would NOT recommend for beginners ~ UPDATE: After a bit of research in distillation, reading a few beginner chemistry books and actually using this kit, I must say i am quite pleased with it's performance. I changed my original star review from 2 to 5 stars. I will be keeping it after all. If you plan to buy this as your first kit I would recommend getting a second support stand. It made the unit more stable. I also swapped the spirit burner for a hot plate. An aquatic pump kept the water flowing through the condenser perfectly. ... show more

    • Good price for what you get
As some background I have a degree in chemistry and have worked 5 years in a QA lab doing mostly wet chemistry. If you are looking for highly accurate and durable glassware go buy some Thermo Fisher glassware; however, if you are on a budget for some of your home chemistry needs this is a very attractive alternative. Everything arrived intact and *very* well packed in cut out style foam so you can use the box & foam for storing it later which is nice if you don't want beakers and flasks mixing with your eating dishes in your cupboards. The quality is a little on the thin side but that's in comparison to what I'm used to seeing (Thermo Fisher) for home projects this will do just fine. There was a slightly sloppy weld on the Condenser that might leak if I ever intended to use a cold water bath to assist with condensing but nothing a dab of super glue won't fix and I don't plan on using a cold water bath so not worth getting that part exchanged. I plan on using this for some basic essential oils. But be aware that there is only a single flask to boil so you will need to rig something up if you want to steam distill with this kit. I would *not* use this for distilling moonshine. This kit is inappropriate for that you will blind yourself with methanol poisoning. This *is* a good kit if you are a homeschooling parent and don't want to invest a crap ton of money in glassware. Overall 4/5 for quality and 5/5 for cost. ... show more

Stay away from this product and seller, terrible quality and even WORSE customer service!! The kit was missing the heating pad, the product I received did NOT match what is pictured! The separator funnel leaked all over the place! Made a huge mess!! The holders also are to short and of very poor quality. The thermometer isn't long enough!!! The cork they sent had a hole so big that the thermometer falls right through!! But even so the thermometer isn't long enough anyhow. The seller said he would send new funnel but never did! Horrible customer service! Did to all the problems I've never once gotten to distill anything!! This thing sells for $155 which is a ripoff! I just purchased a much better quality distilling kit for $107 and free shipping! Buyer Beware!! ... show more

Hi everyone, Yes, this alchemy lab( occultism enthusiast) is ....AWESOME! I love it. Packaged with care. Well thought out protection for the products in the box. I have not one complaint at all. BTW? I love the Asian culture. I spent all of my childhood dreaming of training with Shaolin monks. I was even hoping of one day spending my life with someone from the Asian culture. I feel, however, since trump. Mexicans like myself were slandered so badly. That it has scarred our kind beyond my generation. Once you figure out how to set it up its really easy . I don't use the burner tho lol Buy a water pump for the tubes . Make sure to cut one shorter than the other .

It works well, when you understand how to use it. My package arrived without instructions, so I had to write the seller to send me the links for video instructions. Then they send me the links, very clear. I don't understand why they don't publish the video links openly. So, the tips are that you need to cut the hose and put a bucket of ice cold water, then and then with the syringe suck the water from the distiller to generate the siphon. In the kit you will find a metal clip, so you can close the exit of cold water, and open it the times you need when the water in the distiller comes hot. Nice machine for starting. ... show more
