  • Super nice quality
I will use this item for photoshoots at my photography studio so this is perfect for my use case!

  • Excellent studio flash
I picked up the NEEWER Q4 400Ws 2.4G TTL Studio Flash for some photoshoots I had planned. The studio flash comes in a nice zipper case with a shoulder strap for easy transportation. Inside you receive the flash, bulb, reflector can, one battery, power cable, mounting handle/grip, and instruction manual. I also purchased (pictured above) the QPRO TTL controller for my Nikons. For all the other lights I own and have used this one is quite different in its shape and appearance. The TTL controller, like the rear of the flash, has the same controls, which are easy to set to your specific needs for whatever you're shooting but without the QPRO TTL controller for your specific camera brand, you'll be relegated to using this flash as a slave. During my shoots, the refresh rate or recycle rate of the flash was very rapid (stated .01-1.2 seconds), however, there were times when shooting that the flash didn't trigger at all but those were far and few in between. I never experienced any miss fires either, which have occurred with other flashes. Overall, my experience using this flash in a studio setting was great. The images turned out exactly as we had hoped, and really, that's all I could ask for. I cannot speak to its use outside with the sun as the backlight or anything to speak to that - but I do plan on testing it outside alongside my Godox AD600Pro. ... show more

  • fantastic. Needs a better case though.
This is a great little flash that really fills a need in between an on camera strobe and a large studio model light. You can use this easily holding it in your hand off access while shooting or set it up on the tripod. It’s incredibly versatile and even is compatible with all major camera brand TTL systems. The most shooters I know still use flashes in manual mode. You can trigger this as a slave but it’s probably better used with the on camera trigger. Newer sells these and it’s a standard 2.4 GHz. I think it will actually work with the Godox trigger as well. So far all of my equipment has exhibited interoperability between these two brands. It’s just a great little flash and extremely powerful for its size. Never seen a 400 W strobe in this form factor before. This easily fits on a large photo frame or you can hold it in your hand off axis while shooting. It has a standard Bowens mount to except accessories. And while the light is not cheap, professional strobes are not, I think it represents an excellent value for the flexibility and power that you get . Do you want to have some experience with wireless triggers or be willing to put in the work. This is a prosumer and professional item. Although I believe the casual photographer looking to up their game can get some excellent utility from this and it will be a great learning experience. Lastly I want to make a note about the “case“. I am a huge stickler about items coming with a case. Well this doesn’t leave you completely hanging, it doesn’t come with a custom fitted case for this lamp. It is a bag that is soft with temporary Styrofoam inserts. Once those break the bag on its own is going to be kind of useless to protect the equipment. Given what this thing costs there’s no reason why they couldn’t have given you a custom padded soft case at the very least like a camera bag which is what eventually you’re going to have to put this into anyway. It’s really difficult to decide whether or not to take office star for this. At least they included some thing which is more than you get with a lot of lights that really need a case. But they didn’t include much. ... show more

  • Great
I think Neewer has really come a long way since I had my first OCF strobe (the Vision 5) and I really like this light. The compact design makes it for easy transport with the included case where I can carry two batteries and the remote control. What I don't like is having to handle the flash because the case doesn't hold the light with the bulb attached, but as long as you're careful you should be ok. The build is solid and having the built in handle is nice for carrying, plus the detachable light stand mount makes for an Ok handle. I did compare it to my Godox AD400Pro for flash power and they are on par with each other. However, the Q4 does not have a remote head and I'm not sure if I can plug it into the wall for a quicker recycle time. ... show more

  • Powerful, portable
This is a great, highly portable lighting solution if you need more oomph than something like an AD200. The flat form factor makes it easily pack away when going on location, and the handle on top is a lot more useful that you'd think, making it easy to hold and move. As such, it's ideal for location work, or if you're going to be packing and unpacking your gear a lot. It gives you the power of a strobe with the portability of a flash. Coming to this from strobes like the AD200 (a fantastic flash in its own right), I'm particularly impressed by the power it gives out, AND by the fully functioning modeling light. That modeling light is nice and bright, and at 30 watts and 95+ CRI, it can even be used as a video light in a pinch. Another plus for me is that the back has plenty of buttons, so it keeps having to dive into any menu items at a minimum. It also accepts Bowens mount modifiers (that would be a deal-killer otherwise). At full power, this thing resets at around a second and it speeds up considerably from there. Be aware that you'll need to buy a Neewer flash trigger for this. Nope, Godox/flashpoint triggers won't work. You can trigger it as a slave, of course, but you won't be getting all the features you're paying for. If you'll be staying in one place, you may be better off getting a bigger, bulkier, but cheaper strobe. But if portability is a factor for you, this one definitely deserves a look. ... show more
