  • Perfect starter roll set!
My husband installed it for me so I can’t really comment on ease of installation… He swore at it a few times but figured it out. I read the reviews about the plastic chains being fragile so we were super careful when unwrapping and setting it up. Love it so far! Works well, easy to use. Came with all of the parts and some not so great instructions but we managed to figure it out. Definitely recommend for photographers on a budget! ... show more

  • Great purchase, for the price
Let me start off this review by reflecting on what my mother use to tell me, “you will usually get what you pay for”. First, I always read the poor reviews and then go back and read the good reviews. This help me to give weight to the poor reviews as to their accuracy. For all those complaining that the chain is plastic, I must say this, this is a $70 system and not a $600 or $1,000 high end commercial system. Really, what did you expect. Once mounted to my studios wall, my system is holding 3 107” x 24’ rolls of paper and 1 107” x 24’ vinyl roll. Consideration for what you are mounting, and its weight is vital to your mounting options. First let’s start with the mounting. Unless you have concrete walls, or you are going to mount this to a concrete floor, through away the mounting hardware. The hardware included with the kit is only meant to be used with solid concrete. The mounting brackets are drilled for all sorts of mounting options which I consider to be a big plus. Mounting to just sheetrock was not an option. I don’t care how many sheetrock screws you put in, sheetrock is not very strong and will weaken over time. After measuring I found that my studs were just a little to far apart. After consideration of putting up cross studs between two studs I discovered that if I only used the 4-outside hole on the brackets (they have 4 holes along each side and 2 holes in the middle of the bracket) and set the roller inserts to their max, the spacing was suitable for mounting the brackets directly to the studs. Using 3 ½” wood bolts (3” into the stud, drill piolet holes) I believe that my brackets will hold a couple of hundred pounds each. I did drill out the bracket holes just a little to accommodate a little larger bolt. Sense after I spent days coming up with this solution, I discovered that if you transfer your paper, vinyl to a piece of 2” PVC, you can cut the PVC to any length you want. This would allow you to mount to the studs where ever they are. I discovered this because I had to transfer the vinyl to PVC. Not because of its length but, because its center core was not big enough to accept the roller inserts. Now let’s get to using the system. The plastic chain is functional if you remember that it is plastic and not steal. You can’t go pulling on it like you’re lifting a garage door or speed rolling. I found that I don’t have to use the roller restrictor/locks for the paper rolls. This makes it much easier (less tension on the chain) to roll up the paper rolls. The vinyl is a whole different story as it is much heavier. First off, it’s to heavy for the plastic chains, they will break. You must tighten down the restrictor/lock so tight to keep the weight of the vinyl from unrolling the whole roll you can’t roll it back up. After trying it I ordered the backdrop holder for 42lbs with metal chain. Yes, it’s almost as much as the whole mounting set but, if your going to use 107” vinyl your going to need it. I also put a screw hook into the stud where the chain is. I unroll the vinyl and put the chain on the hook to hold the roll. This allows me to not have to tighten the restrictor/lock down which makes it easier to roll the vinyl back up. If you use a smaller (much smaller) roll you may not need to purchase the heavier holder. Try it with what comes with the kit and if you find it’s not suitable, order the heavier holder. If you’re going to use all vinyl, purchase a different system, this one is not heavy enough. All in all, considering the price and despite some of the issue, I am very satisfied and happy to give this product a 5-star rating. ... show more

  • Heavy Duty Wall and Ceiling Mount
It was easy to install. You should have help installing it if you are using the full 10ft poles.

  • Was hard to find support bar
I loved this set. Bought right before COVID19 shutdowns so am just now getting it up. Still have to add the chains and weights and get some more backdrops. My studio landlord installed the brackets and since I already had an 86" roll of paper, I told him any distance apart greater than the 86". I wish I hadn't told him that. He placed them at 95" apart which means I can only use 86" rolls now. I needed a pole to span the distance for the 86" rolls since the brackets were 95" apart. Was hard to find a proper pole. I first bought 1.5" PVC but the brackets on the end won't fit instead a 1.5" PVC. A 2" PVC was too wide to fit inside the cardboard core of the paper backdrop roll. I finally found Impact Cross Pole for Uncored Paper or Fabric Backgrounds (106.3") from B&H Photo and they were perfect (after cutting down to 95". I am having a hard time figuring out how to hang the weight on the chain since the chain is open ended but I'm sure I'll figure it out. ... show more

  • Not much to dislike
Well for the price this thing is pretty sturdy and gets the job done most of the time you will not need to put so much force onto this and the weight of the roll isn't enough to really make a huge difference in how well this can hold its roles of paper. I'm not entirely sure if I explain that right but to get down to it you can well make your money back with a shoot or two. It holds my seamless white backdrop that is 86 in Long with ease I haven't had a problem with the rollers or the plastic chain that it comes with one thing I would take into consideration is having someone to release the rolls tensioner to keep it in place and tighten it back up when you're done taking the amount of roll you want out so it doesn't over roll when you're by yourself you'll know what I mean when you do it. ... show more

  • Love it
Love this backdrop system. Easy to install (once you figure out how high it should be (ie what size backdrops do you use, do they need to touch the floor etc). I put mine too high but will probably install a second one lower (which would not interfere with the higher one). The plastic chains are flimsy but shouldn’t break if you are careful with them. Metal anchors and solid and sturdy. I used wall anchors capable of holding 75lbs each from Home Depot so there is not chance of them ripping from the Sheetrock. ... show more

  • Backdrop access made simple!
Purchased this for my home new studio and love that I made access to my seamless drops real easy! I will say that the plastic pull downs might need to be replaced with stronger ones because i don’t see them lasting for too long with the strength I need to put toward the pull down. I did not purchase any pvc pipping since I am using seamless paper, seamless rolls have the cardboard rolls in the middle and that’s really all it needs is a sturdy middle to hold it up. Putting the drops on the each bracket was very easy, and installation didn’t look too complicated while watching my husband put them up. My walls are cinderblock do they hold this mount very sturdy. Satisfied with my purchase! ... show more
