  • 2009 Honda Odyssey EX-L 204000 miles.
She’s 14+ years old with 200k+ on her odometer. Did a valve cover gaskets replacement a few days earlier and still have oil leaking at the base of the oil dip stick so I figure it must be the spool solenoid gasket then. For $10 bucks why not try replacing it to see if it helps. Removing the solenoid was easy and straightforward with 3 bolts. The old gaskets are flat and brittle. Scraped off all foreign materials around the aluminum surface and cleaned all the oil residue with brake cleaner throughout. Everyone says swap the old screen to the new gasket, so I did. The new gaskets are round and flexible. Reverse the process they go. Tighten down evenly until the bolts feel snug (no torque wrench needed) and they also seem to bottomed out. Reinstall all electrical hardness and clean up old leaks with more brake cleaner fluid. Have driven over 100 miles since gaskets replaced with no sign of oil leaking from the spool solenoid gaskets. Save hundreds I suppose. On a side note. The oil leaks did kill the alternator about a year ago. Had a local mechanic replace a new alternator as I had no time to DYI. The dumb mechanic didn’t even catch the oil leaking down the alternator that was the cause that kill the alternator….or careless to mention. If you can, DIY so you know you did it right….only you care about your car, everyone else just wants to get it down quick and get paid. ... show more

  • does the job
well, the original gasket was leaking and it fried my alternator. It was hard to identify because it was leaking only when it was cold. It was an easy fix with this part. It fit perfectly and it was easy to replace. Over tightened the bolts and snapped, so had to pay a visit to ACE to find the bolt, they have it. As I read the comments, I also used the original basket, not the one comes with this. Right after replacement I had some additional warning codes but cleared after a few days and no engine light since a good 300miles. It is a good fit and does the job. ... show more

  • It did not fire a DTC code
The gasket worked, no leak and code. It may come a little deformed from the box but dont worry be gentle and make sure it is seated well in the groove before placing the plate and the top solenoid. Rotate tightening the 3 bolts before you torque.

  • Will cause a check engine light.
This spool valve gasket set will cause a check engine light. In my case it was a P3497 and a cylinder P0304 misfire. After a decent bit of diagnostic including swapping multiple spool valve uppers and oil pressure switches I switched back to my old gasket. I compared oil pressures between this gasket kit and the OEM gasket set and determined the screen in OEM gasket is slightly smaller. Hard to see but the OEM gasket is on the left in the picture above. From what I understand too high of oil pressure may cause the VPS system to stick on causing this issue. I recommend a OEM spool valve assembly. Remove the upper and use it on you vehicle if you have a leak. ... show more

  • Installed in March-Failed in August
Early failure could be related to the solenoid and not a reflection of poor quality. Planning another fix now.

  • Ordered extra common part that does fail
So, I order this and the part that it went with. That part came with gaskets. I have installed these gaskets before. And about around 40k to 60k I had to replace them. I have 210k miles on my car now. It's old 2011, this is are going to wear out do to time. I believe that part I replaced was going bad. I will know after the first 1000.miles if I'm having issues over all. But the gaskets work just fine. I would buy from them again. ... show more

  • NO CEL like many stated
I’m not sure if it was my meticulous method or if I just got lucky, but I rolled the dice and changed the gaskets before spending $$$$ on an entire solenoid, and this worked perfectly with NO check engine light. I was extra gentle with removing the solenoid, cleaned the area very and surfaces well, oiled the new gaskets, and used a torque wrench (9ft lbs) and the leak is now fixed and no CEL. ... show more
