This a short term, minimal review so far. Item stands up well to hard use so far, no rips or tears and it handles water well. The padding is good enough for gravel and uneven ground. The mat sections that provide grip get extreamly hot in the sun, could probably do without them. The mat size is a bit smaller than you may expect (will not fit your whole body), but keeping your rifle just off the front of the mat, only your feet will hang off too much. The mat is lightweight, but it does take up a lot of space. The ties used to secure and included strap are probably the worst characteristics of the product. Would prefer better closure snaps to include better straps and stitching, with an expectation that users would find their own way to attach the mat to a bag. ... show more

Great shooting mat that I had borrowed (and now purchased one for myself) at Project Appleseed shoots. I like the fact it can be rolled up and I can sit on it as a temporary seat cushion, which is something that can't really be done with the fold-up version (well, you can, but you're much closer to the ground with the fold-up mat). The shooting mat folds in lengthwise with the ground side facing out to keep out the dirt and grime, then rolled up to be secured by long loops of velcro straps. A carry handle and detachable shoulder strap (which can also work as a rifle bipod stop) complete the package. I like there are friction patches located throughout the mat to provide better grip of your feet/elbows/knees while in various shooting positions, and the underside seems sturdy enough to not get punctured by spent casings, which is nice. I would highly recommend getting one of these if you shoot outdoors or on public/private land. ... show more

My reason for ordering this mat is that I need something to lie on when taking macro photos. I spend a lot of time lying on the ground taking photos of flowers, insects, and water drops. I'd been using a beat up old yoga mat, but it was falling apart and was way too bulky to carry around with me. I searched for mats that were specifically designed with photography in mind, but came up with nothing. So, I broadened my search and ended up looking at this mat from NcSTAR. It's perfect! It's lightweight that I can tote it around as I walk through the woods, and yet thick and sturdy enough that I can lie comfortably on a variety of surfaces for extended periods of time. One highlight is how easy it is to unroll and roll quickly. Two straps hold it closed. Unclick the fasteners and I can fling it open on the ground in under 5 seconds. Rolling it up is nearly as easy. I'm so happy to get rid of that beat up old yoga mat. If you're a photographer who spends a lot of time lying on the ground with your camera, this mat might become your new best friend. ... show more

Sturdy and well made. A bit thicker than I expected. Bought two of these to outfit a JROTC marksmanship team, and they are considerably thicker than the ones we had. But they store easily, and the shooters like them. Probably better for shooting on an outside range than on an indoor floor, but they work either way. ... show more
