  • Excellent value @ a great price.
I have played Tuba and Sousaphone for over 4 decades so my review is coming from the perspective of a player learning this horn as a secondary brass instrument. Shipping: the trombone took a month to receive, and it was delivered well packaged. No dents. It came delivered in top condition. The Trombone: the horn looks and feels very well made. In general the craftsmanship is above average. Well machined joints, solid soldering, no air leaks; in my opinion the quality machining of the trombone parts is surprising for the price point. The manufacturer did not cut any corners. I own older horns that are not as well made as this Trombone. The overall nickel finish looks nice and professionally plated. As another reviewer mentioned, this Trombone needs some valve and slide care before you play it. It’s a good idea to clean out the valve casings with a soft brush, and to wipe the valves with a soft cloth moistened in valve oil. It’s a good idea to use quality valve oil and to keep the horn clean. The valves need to be broken in. The trombone comes with a mouthpiece. It looks nice but I don’t recommend playing with it. I would go out and buy a Bach mouthpiece or something similar. The case is well made. It’s sturdy and made of quality insulated padded material. Tonality: for me the horn was slightly sharp, pulling out a few slides corrected my ability to stay in tune. Overall I give the horn an A+ In a world of computer CNC machining and mass fabrication one of the primary differences in high end expensive horns and this budget horn often comes down to valves and the brass composite metals used to make these horns. I don’t think this horn has much brass content in it as it does not resonate in the same way as a horn made of brass. The timbre and tonality is nice and this horn will work great for marching band or pep band projects but I’m uncertain how it would work in orchestral or jazz settings where the intonation, and tonality needs to be more precise. A strong experienced player can make this horn sound above average. It’s great a student horn. ... show more

  • OK for the price
Valve action is a bit stiff. I don't know if it's my out of shape lip, or the instrument but the sound seems a bit off. Worst thing is the manufacturer left out any spit valves. There was one in the picture, but there isn't one on mine. I'm not a serious musician so it's ok for the price.

  • It alright for the price but...
The media could not be loaded. Well first off I just wanna say that I am a trumpet player as my main instrument for the last 7 years and when I recorded this it was probably like my second overall hour on the instrument or so so I probably wouldn't be the best to review it but. In the end I am a brass musician and can tell that this instrument is ok at best. Once I got a feel for it and adjusted to it from my trumpet chops I can now tell that the lower notes especially like concert C and the g above it are stuffy. I think this can kinda be explained because of the mouthpiece that came with it which has a very tight backbore and small rim diameter and the more annoying part it you can't insert a normal trombone small shank mouthpiece into it because the receiver is smaller diameter too which makes it basically play best with the mouthpiece it came with. I think im gonna fix this issue by drilling a bigger receiver so it can take normal trombone small shank mouthpieces. I took a picture of the mouthpiece it came with compared to a common 12c hopefully you can see what i mean about the mouthpiece it came with being a lot smaller and thats compared to a 12c which is already on the smaller side of trombone mouthpieces. Anyways another issue is that the spit valve does not work I think some thing is blocking the hole but no biggie cause I just take out the slide and dump it. Also the valves move a bit rough (they are heavy and slower than others ive used) deffinently not smooth at all they are a bit too big for the casing so much so that putting oil on them caused one to get stuck but I fixed that too. The case is good tho it's thick but not heavy (i think it probably has some styrofoam material in it) but it only has storage for a mouthpiece. Overall I can go on longer about the trombone but ima end it with this. I bought it mostly to mess around and with and if that's why your interested in then probably isn't a bad option especially if you don't want to pay a lot like me. If you wanna take this more seriously I would look elsehere for a valve trombone because this one would simply cause you too much troubles and bring you set backs. Also the song I played was the intro for "Lou Lou" which is a newer song by Natanoel Cano, and Gabito Ballesteros which fits into a the regional Mexican music gene and yea these type of songs are the reason I bought the trombone to mess around with. ... show more

  • Good horn for the price!
The media could not be loaded. For $200 you can’t knock it. Be careful opening it, I took a razor knife thinking it was inside of a box but it’s basically wrapped in a piece of paper with a ton of plastic wrap around it, so I put a nice slice down the side of the case! Really thought it would be inside of a cardboard box… Wash the horn before you play it! There is a ton of dirt and grime inside the valve sleeves. You’ll damage the valves if you oil it up out of the box and start playing it, repeat!, give it a nice thorough bath! Throw away the mouthpiece unless you have an alto trombone , it will take a large shank mouthpiece, but a small shank would be better. Plays relatively in tune, and is worth every penny of $200. I had to do some adjustments to the spit valve to get it to seat properly, no big deal. My serial number is 35, so it was one of the first few made. Excellent for the beginner and intermediate, and even the pro might enjoy tooting on this decent instrument. The case smells like dirty socks, which is weird, but leaving ait open aired it out and no issues. I recommend this horn. Adam Austin Chicago. ... show more

  • Great Horn... Slow To Get It
I received the instrument in great condition. The only thing was shipping too longer then originally stated. Was not worth paying for the expedited shipping. Go with regular. Otherwise, I can not wait to start recording some quartet music!!

  • So far the best sounding trombone for its value in my perspective
Really good instrument if you are just starting to learn a valve instrument this is a good instrument to start with. It’s tone quality is really good for a price I thought was too good to be true.
