They don't have enough literacy in Kenya, so Zach (the YT channel owner who built this library) was looking for donations from folks abroad. And this is one of the books (sets) that I donated. Children's books like these were building blocks for children like myself to form good values and learn lessons that would serve us later in life.     • Be Aware of Sensitive Issues
I had never read Nancy Drew books, so I started to read Book 1 to determine what I thought of it. I found that in just the first several pages, there were three characters who had lost one or both parents in childhood. The 5-year-old child rescued by Nancy had lost both of her parents due to an accident, that child's mother had also lost both of her parents when she was little, and Nancy herself, who is 18 in the story, had lost her mother. I was concerned that my sensitive, introspective 9-year-old granddaughter might be troubled by those scenarios and worry about her own life, so I returned the set. I am surprised not to find other reviewers expressing concern about this, but I believe that it is important to take into account, even if only so adults can prepare children - especially younger, impressionable ones - for what they will encounter in the book. ... show more

    • Glad I found them
My grandma had one of these when I was little and she gave it to me. One day l just happened to be thinking about it. I don’t know where the original book is. So for nostalgia reasons I bought them. Although they are for children I think they are fun for adults. I was sad to be finished and found myself upset falling asleep because I wanted to finish a chapter. The reading went so fast because the story is so good and the characters are great. I happen to love the 50s and 60s era. Although I was born much later. I enjoy hearing about dinner and guests arriving or even the polite way in which the people correspond with each other. I love the style of writing and mystery. The dialogue and imagery is very hi-lighted. I could see and feel the emotions of the characters, as well as the surroundings. The stories are fun and definitely keep you interested. You may have a clue as to what may happen, but it’s fun to think along with Nancy Drew. I may buy more. I’m onto the hardy boys now.. ... show more
