Description

The lumbar pack that helped start the craze in the 80s, the Tour pack lives on in its modern incarnation as a favorite of hikers and outdoor-minded travelers. With a broad swath of versatile uses, this pack tends to become a cherished possession in every outdoor enthusiastâ€s gear closet. However, it does not stay there long as it gets used daily as a hiking pack, disc golf bag, messenger bag, office briefcase, carry on travel solution, diaper bag, and just about anything you can think of. Built with ultra-durable CORDURA fabric, the Tour lumbar pack will become your outdoor security blanket as it logs hundreds of thousands of miles adventuring with you around the world. Though the design honors the 35+ year history of this waist pack and has not changed much in shape, modern features make this version of the Tour the most advanced yet.

  • Worth every penny
Color: Asphalt Grey
I do a lot of research when I buy things, including reading reviews. I looked at this and the Tour SM and decided on this because it was actually much cheaper and I liked the colors. I have issues with my neck and shoulders, and day packs or one shoulder bags just aggravate. I returned the Drift version because it was too small to hold a bigger journal or book. I'm a petite woman, and I think the Tour Small would probably have fit me better, but I thought I could always cinch this larger bag down to a smaller size. I used this on three short hikes with a dog and I LOVE it. Extremely well designed, with pockets in the right places, especially a "hidden one in the front. It has more room than I would need for a short hike. It can hold more than I'd ever need unless on a long flight or hike. It also sits up when on the ground, which is nice. I had to cinch it quite a bit because it is designed for larger waists, but it worked. Super high-quality and thoughtful design. My one critique is that it is a little heavier and it has a neoprene sleeve that I didn't need. I'd almost make that removable if I designed the next version. I also love how easy it is to stow the lumbar straps so that it can just be a day bag. Hiking or walking with a dog and a kid and hands free is a game changer. I expect to use this as well while traveling. I wish I got this years ago. ... show more

  • Hauls bottles, dog stuff, and essentials - just what you need, not much you don’t
Color: Rust Brown
Just took this pack out for its first quick spin. In general, I think I’m pretty pleased with it - I wanted a smaller-capacity pack for shorter day hikes that accommodated bottles, and it seems like all backpacks in this capacity (9L) range are for hydration bladders. Two and a half miles on rolling terrain later, I’m pretty pleased. No swampy back or shoulder cramps. I did need to hitch it up a few times, and I could feel it shifting a bit, but no flopping or bouncing with two 26oz Yeti bottles, a light jacket, and some basics (small medical kit, collapsible dog bowl, poop bags, knife, phone) on board. It’s easy to grab a bottle and replace it while walking. There’s plenty of thoughtful organization pockets, as well as a shock-corded “hammock” on the front that was just right for stuffing a Patagonia Nano Air jacket; it’d be great for a rain shell or vest too. I might give the Strapettes a try to see if it stabilizes the load a bit more. Fabric is burly and overall build seems very good - this is clearly designed to go some miles. The Rust Brown color is more of a pleasant, muted orange, which suits me fine. Overall, seems like a nice, if very dadcore, solution to carrying some water bottles and the basics on a day hike. I’ll try the shoulder strap to stabilize it more, and if that works nicely, I’ll bump a star. ... show more

  • Jury’s out.
Color: Rust Brown
After unboxing and examination it was clear that this is the lumbar pack I wanted. Good design. Good size. Color was right. Comfortable and fully adjustable for a fairly custom fit. I think it will be a good addition to my equipment once the replacement comes in. I started to load the pack on the day after it’s arrival for a seven mile walk. I put a silnylon poncho in the right hand water bottle pocket as you face the logo and pulled the bungee to cinch the top. It immediately snapped from within the sleeve around the top of the pocket. I’ve walked 1680 miles in the last year. I’m respectful of the gear I use and depend on it. I’m pretty disappointed. This is the pack I want. If it was a cheap pack, or this had occurred after sustained use, I’d just figure out a workaround. But I hadn’t even gotten out the door yet. It fills a specific need for me. I’ve returned the first pack and await a replacement. Then I will rewrite my review. Replacement pack arrived in fairly short order, no difficulties or complications. Looked good. No bungees or straps tearing out. I loaded up with basic kit, two full water bottles, firemaking, cordage, water filtration, emergency blanket, knife, etc. still under ten lbs. I think, with more room to spare. Walked a quick three miles. I’m happy now. The Tour is comfortable and big enough for a day hike or quick side jaunt. It’s worth packing along on an extended trip, so you can leave your larger gear at base camp. I really like the shoulder strap. I didn’t need it, but now I’m glad it’s there. Very versatile. Things I especially like? It’s really nice to walk with spine, shoulders, and arms totally unencumbered. Good for a boulder field or scrambling up a steep slope. You have a lot more freedom of movement. Less back sweat. Reach around for water is easy. Replacing water bottle by feel is a bit fiddly, but will get better with familiarity. Plenty of straps for firming things down snug. I didn’t find bouncing to be a problem at all, there is movement, but it’s very slight. My gait is fairly relaxed and smooth, so the Tour is fairly still. I haven’t given the bag 5 stars, cause I can’t speak to durability yet. This is the lumbar pack I wanted. I’m pleased and yes, I’d recommend this pack to anyone who wanted an easy, comfortable, well designed pack for a day hike or side trip. I’m looking forward to longer hikes with it. It’s looking like a good addition to my gear. Thanks. ... show more

  • Sags down with any kind of weight, even when cinched up.
Color: Moss Green
This bag kept drooping off my back...I had EVERY strap cinched up as tight as it would go!! I have a size 34 waist. When I had it loaded up for a day hike it sagged really badly! To get it to stay up I to lift up my shirt and put the strap on my skin (it would slide down my nylon shirt) ..and then cinch the bag as if I was trying to pinch myself in half! I started unloading stuff...when it was half emptied out it felt better...it felt really great when it was almost completely empty! ... show more

  • Very good bag.
Color: Heritage Black
I also own a Drift and use it to carry - just the essentials. When I need to carry a lot more, the drift is used as part of a two-bag system, and it works great in that capacity. This brings me to the tour. It works well as the second bag in my configuration. It also works great as a daily bag going to and from the office -- with or without the Drift. With the Tour, it is possible to carry 32 oz of water and a smaller "Thermos" for soup or oatmeal; all without using the main pocket. Keys, cell phone, wallet, office badge, PPE, Purell, lunch, and a large medical pouch easily fit into the remaining pockets. The waist belt is a nice-to-have for long walks between buildings. Most of the time, the shoulder strap works best, for me. I have a number of bags, but the tour is probably the best, for general use. Highly recommended. ... show more
