  • Finished the job with the 1/2" auger
To start, let me just share what not to do. Don't use the motor when you're close to fully retracting the cable. I would recommend manually rotating the drum when you have a few feet left so that you don't kink the cable inside of it. I had done this because the drum rotates from momentum a score of times after you take your knee off the switch. Then I messed it up even worse trying to get the cable out so I ended up having to take the entire thing apart to get the cable out. Trust me when I say you don't want to do this but the fact that I got it back together is a testament to the simple construction although the bolts inside the drum are very hard to get to at all times and are especially hard when the cable is messed up. As others have said, to start, it's very hard to get the belt on but I managed it (two times!) with just minor frustration. I saw someone said it took them 12 hours to get the cable fully out but I didn't have the same experience. My third time using it I was pretty comfortable with operating it and was able to get all 100 feet out in about 1 1/4 hours (back in took about 30 minutes) but I have a straight shot so results will vary. You definitely have to move it more slowly once most of the cable is out. You move it out until the cable starts to bow and then back off to let it settle but I thought this was probably a good thing since it gave the auger time to do its job. So I said I did it 3 times. I used the boring bulb the first 2 times and I think I had just punched a hole in whatever the blockage was because the clog came back pretty quickly. The 3rd time I used the C-Cutter and that has cleared me for 3 days now so I feel like I managed to clear what plunging alone was not touching. As for the cost. I had to have a guy come out and use an auger about 3 years ago and that cost me more than this machine did (can't imagine what it is now) so I have to say that this has been an incredible value taking only 2 hours to run and paying for itself with only 1 use. Gives me a lot of peace of mind to know that I don't have to wait if I have another clog. Final thoughts is that it's heavy and loud but not too loud and not too heavy that I couldn't move it myself without too much fuss. It's also a serious machine and you can hurt yourself with the open cage so I would recommend getting a plumber first so you see how to use it and how it works for them with your pipe(s). Final, final thought is that I really should have gotten a camera first so I knew what I was fighting. I would strongly recommend that first since you may damage your pipes worse going in blind. ... show more

  • If you have the time, IT WORKS!
First thoughts on opening the package, wow this thing is heavy! Seems well made, some parts a little flimsy, but overall a solid build. Took some time to get used to the machine, but it just spins clockwise to send the cable out, or counter-clockwise to bring the cable back. I made some questionable modifications to reduce vibration and make operating easier, and it works fine. But let me tell you the single most important part: this machine takes FOREVER to send cable. My first night trying to reach my clog, it took me several hours, and I never even hit the clog! The cable moves SO incredibly slowly; by all my calculations, it should take an hour, tops, to send all 100 feet of cable out. I know this machine isn't as heavy duty as some of the others, but wow. My second attempt was on a Saturday where I had all day and plenty of time to play with the machine. Folks, it took me 12 hours to reach the clog and clear it. TWELVE. HOURS. Machine overheating, resting, letting the thing run wild, yanking and feeding the cable by hand, etc. Which leads me to another hangup I have with the machine: it is impossible to tell how much cable you have sent out. I just kind of eyeball the remaining spool and make a guess comparing the spool to the mental snapshot of a full spool. So in 12 hours, I estimate that I was able to send out about 70 feet of cable and hit my target. Did it work? Yes. Was it worth it? Yes. But I hated every minute of it. I still give a good review, and I will update in the future if this changes, but if it is a long stretch of pipe you're working on, bring a book. I had the cable kink and misbehave only once, but after stopping the machine and manhandling the cable, it was an easy fix. ... show more

  • Arrived with broken parts, but I had to use it anyway...
I am talking about the 100ft Morphon power snake/auger with .5 inch cable. It arrived with some broken parts. The box was beat to hell, but from the way it was taped, most of the damage came BEFORE it was shipped. So... BUYER BEWARE! The drive belt was not in place on the drum, and was a PITA to get it located properly. The knob for the"safety" cover for the drive belt was in very small pieces, but that wasn't really a problem because I could never get that safety cover to work without the drum hitting it, because the drive motor shifts so much when engaged/turned on. Anyway, I payed WAY TOO much for this POC, especially when I checked the price on Amazon the day it was delivered, only to find that it was approx.$60 cheaper. It works, but if I had it to do again, I would go with at least a 5/8" cable, and another brand. Maybe Rigid, or Stihl, or some other reputable company. Morphon sucks. Since I HAD to get my sewer cleared, I went ahead and used it. ... show more
