My wife bought this without knowledge. I needed a mold block to add to a custom dark color grout. This one's main ingredient is bright white zinc oxide. Mixed with white grout, it is probably perfect. With dark steel blue, it just didn't work. Saved it for a white grout project that is next.

It's a very small packet and blends in seamlessly. Regarding its mold and mildew defense, I haven't observed any significant difference. Nonetheless, some protection is better than none. My grout is white, and I didn't find any issues with the grout when I used this additive. So far, there is no mold on the grout in my bathroom. ... show more

This is a zinc-oxide liquid that contains sodium chloride (salt), which deters mold from growing. It mixes with grout (I've mixed with caulks before too). This is effective at repelling mold, and may extend the mold resistance for a few years, but it won't last forever. Mold will eventually grow. Having said that, there's nothing to lose by adding this - it's relatively cheap - to eek a few extra years out of grout/caulk. ... show more

I put this in the grout we used when recently re-tiling our shower stall and it seems to be holding up well. But since it can be used in wet environments, and is largely sodium chloride and zinc oxide which are effectively natural insecticides and pesticides also, I decided to combine some with my window seal and put it around the exterior north-facing and lake-facing windows of our house which are in the back of our home thankfully, where they tend to get horrible looking mold and other growth around their edges. I'm hoping this will help prevent them from darkening and needing frequent cleaning and re-sealing, but also they might repel bees from nesting, and the invasive beetles, flies, mosquitos, etc. which sometimes hanging around too close to the house where we like to BBQ on the patio. ... show more

I decided to do some remodeling to our bathroom. We have way to much moisture in there and our previous fan (from the 50s) was super loud and didn't seem to actually pull out moisture very well. As a result we get a lot of mold, including on the ceiling. I can remove it fairly well from the tiles on the walls, but I've removed it using commercial fungicides many times from my ceiling but it always comes back. So, I bought a new ultra quiet fan to install and decided just in case that doesn't help enough that I would actually just tile my ceiling. However, I know that while the tiles will be relatively easy to clean, grout can be a pain to remove mold from. Not wanting to have to spend time scrubbing grout lines on my ceiling I decided two things, 1. I'll use the thinnest grout line I can, and 2. I'll use this grout additive to reduce the risk of mold and mildew. I can't vouch for it's effectiveness yet, as I only just used it and the mold will take a while to notice if it's still a problem. What I can say is that it was easy to use and mixes into the grout perfectly. I'm not sure it would be something you could easily add to a pre-mixed grout but if you're mixing it yourself from the powder, its really just the added step of pouring this in with your grout. I really hope to see a marked improvement with no mold growth in the bathroom after all this but if I'm back to scrubbing mold out off my ceiling and it's allover the grout, I'll be sure to update this review. ... show more
