The auto-on and auto-off feature is huge. At 82, I often forget to turn things off. The accuracy seems great. It always returns to zero when closed. Action is smooth. I've only used it a dozen times so will report back if it does not hold up well.

Simply put, these Mitutoyo calipers are the gold standard for 6" digital calipers, and in my opinion the absolute best set you can buy. The non-coolant proof model Mitutoyo sells (black and yellow) is 95% as good as this one, but these just go the extra mile. For a tool you can trust and never worry about, this is it... period. I used an old, beat up set for years that were exposed to coolant and grime constantly, and they always performed perfectly. You should maintain them on occasion by wiping them clean and double-checking zero, which should be a standard habit with any good machinist and their tools. I trust Mitutoyo tools completely and can attest to their accuracy and durability. It isn't a cheap caliper but you will never regret buying it if you're a working person making parts and holding tolerances! ... show more

Used to measure engine parts for a rebuild. Accurate and repeatable! Surprised there is no 'on' button. Just move slide and it's ON! Self shutoff! Buy it, you'll like it!
