I’ve been using Mission towels for years. Their products have never failed my satisfaction. They remain ice cold for a good amount of time. A simple spin in my hand, and they immediately become cold again. I really like the wide brim on this hat, and the length on the back is just right. The SPH protection is a must. I haven’t tried wetting it yet, but I’m sure that it will work. I don’t expect the coolness not work as long because of the direct sunlight hitting on top. I wouldn’t expect any hat to stay cool for long, especially here in the southwest with temps in the 100s +. But, anything helps. I highly recommend it. ... show more

I do a lot of backcountry camping. This style of hat with the flappy back is great because it doesn't run into the backpack. My go-to hat is Sunday Afternoons Ultra Adventure Storm Hat and I bought this one to try a cheaper alternative on a recent canoeing trip. Upsides: very comfortable on my big head, the brim is an inch deeper than Storm hat, and the back flap has more coverage and doesn't inflate in wind. The brim is also stiffer and doesn't flip up in a heavy wind like the Storm Hat. Downsides (relative to the Storm Hat): It's heavier and warmer. Collects more heat. It doesn't dry nearly as fast as the storm hat. That one is mostly nylon with plastic in the bill. This feels more like cloth. The brim doesn't bend, so I can't really flatten the hat in half without distorting it. Doesn't pack as well. The flap in the back feels like a tongue. It also tends to catch on my shirt when I turn my head, so I'm constantly readjusting it. The inner forehead liner tends to flip down when you pull the hat off, so you need to reposition when you put it back on. This was a fun experiment, but I'm relegating it to gardening. The Storm Hat is stupidly expensive for a hat and there are probably some Amazon alternatives that'll get you most of the way there. This one, I think, is better for casual use. My husband used an Arctic cooling hat for years, until it got so nasty it was time for a new one. I stumbled across this product and took a chance. My husband loves it better than the one he had. He said he likes how light it is and how the flap on the back covers his neck.

This hat offers great protection from the harmful rays of the sun. The fit is slightly loose but doesn’t hinder anything and the cape in the back protects your ears and neck. The tan color doesn’t heat up quickly and sweat is trapped easily on the sweat band. Great for outside yard work or hiking. The material does make blood difficult to remove. ... show more
