This book was disgustingly sexist, racist, unrealistic, and low key promotes child pornography and rape culture. Furthermore, it perpetuates negative stereotypes, largely against African Americans. The main character is a glorified narcissist, that does nothing but lust after, control, and manipulate every "female" he comes across. His mother is not even allowed to travel to work alone, and literally all she does is work. She has no friends, and her husband is completely absent, presumably living in another country with his other wives, while she is left to raise two children, by herself, in a tiny apartment in the projects of Brooklyn. Her son, Midnight, is a psychopath, that constantly objectifies woman and seeks to control them. I teach 14 year olds, and reading this novel made me sick. I assume most people reading this aren't 14, so the rampant child sex scenes serve no other purpose than to promote child pornography. Not to mention the writing is monotonous and the story is boring and unbelievable. It makes me sad that people could read this book and enjoy it. ... show more

    • Connects the dots but a long read
Ok so I’ve followed this entire series of novels and honestly, each book I’ve managed to finish in 1-2 days ( Im a mother of 3 girls who are currently home school from 8am - 4pm and I work. Just so you can know what kind of time I’m working with). This book DRAAAAAGGED. I mean I can appreciate setting the scene but this book felt like the author had to meet a certain page quota and decided to just break down every little thing. At one point it became so much I FELL ASLEEP READING. And I normally lose sleep reading. And it actually doesn’t end. It just becomes mundane. The only motivation I had to finish was that the next book came in while I was in the middle of reading this one and I just felt the need to have all the dots connected. This is the only book that took me over a week to finish. And it wasn’t a bad story. It was actually decent. But all the filler pages of imagery was a little excessive. And yes, sex is involved. If you ever been a teen in love while sexually active you can relate to the intensity of each moment. I’m grown and did not feel like “eww child porn”. I appreciated the idea of being honest with your partner AT ANY AGE and making an honest woman of them and not just another sexual object. I was able to appreciate the story when I finished.     • The saga continued
Well.... What can I say that wasn't said in my review of Book 1 of the Midnight saga. I'm not the one who tells the story or gives my opinion about the story which could possibly give away the story line but my impression is that Midnight is a 14 year old 007. And the women he loves and lust are "Bond Girls". To read and enjoy this story just remember this is fiction. The elements that make this story real is the knowledge you gain about the many cultures Midnight is invited in to and the details that have gone into the telling of the scenery and the countries he visits. The story is elaborate, a journey, and an odessey. At the of the story you will be exhausted and satisfied. As I mentioned before, Midnight is 14 and having grown folks marital sex. It's a great love story, but maybe since I'm an African American woman, I'm too shallow (as this book seems to characterize American women) to accept that it's okay for men to have more than one wife, but the same standard doesn't apply to the women. It's also disheartening that American women are characterized as not having any standards or morals, only Asian and African women. ... show more

    • Love is powerful
Sister Soulja knows she is never at a loss for words! This book was long just like all her other books. Midnight is on a mission to rescue his young bride from Japan after her father took her back there to keep them apart. He's at a disadvantage because he doesn't speak the language but he has a guide in another beauty that he met on the plane ride over. She's willing to help him look for his wife for a fee & She's a resident of Japan so she knows her way around. Midnight is so secretive & he doesn't expect this girl to catch on to his evasive answers but she's just as smart as him & she's figuring things out. Eventually they do locate Akemi but there are more obstacles than Midnight thought & he has to figure out how to get back home safely with his wife. Seems almost impossible. ... show more

    • it was unbelievable
It was long and drawn out, it was unbelievable that two power fathers would let a fifth teen year old boy take their two young daughter back to New York without putting up a fight. First Midnight was in a foreign country their was no way half the things he achieved would have happen. Second it was very disappointing to me as a black woman that Midnight didn’t fall in love with a black girl in Brooklyn. All the young black girls in Brooklyn had nice bodies but were hoes or slut had babies and didn’t go to school. The fact that he didn’t attend school was a big issue for me also. Midnight was a fifth teen year old boy who married two intelligent young girls who was accustom to a certain life style and he couldn’t provide for them in the same manner that they were use to once he took them back to the states. His religion states that he could have several wives but the first wife is the number one wife he picked two number one wives and his mother had to point that out to him. Both of these young girls with so many talents would have to share him and then he is making babies with no way to support them. It was just too stupid for me. I keep waiting to see how this book shaped Midnight in the coldest winter ever into the drug dealer cold hearted killer he became. if you believe in firty tails this is the book for you. i am a fan of sister souljah and was very disapointed in this book. ... show more
