Style Name: Ultra Coarse

Features

  • The Microplane Gourmet Series Ultra Coarse Cheese Grater is the best cooking utensil for making hash browns and coleslaws. The extra-wide blade with large teeth make quick work of grating potatoes and shredding cabbage.
  • The Ultra Coarse blade is 4" wide, much larger than standard paddle Cheese Graters. Which makes it the kitchen tool for recipes that need a larger amount of a grated ingredient. Shred large widths of hard and soft cheese, and use for softening butter.
  • The Microplane Gourmet Series Ultra Coarse Grater features a comfortable and ergonomic soft-touch handle with loop for optional hanging, a non-slip base for added stability, and a reusable cover for safe storage
  • Top-rack dishwasher safe. Handwash the cover. We recommend rinsing your Cheese Grater in warm water immediately after each use. Remove trapped particles from the non-sharp side whenever possible. To remove trapped particles on the front, first, soak the tool in warm water and then use a cleaning brush to stroke in the same, direction as the teeth.
  • Blade made in the USA, Assembled in Mexico.

  • Easy to use
Style Name: Ultra Coarse
This purchase was to replace an older model with a plastic handle. VERY, VERY sharp!! Had to use my cutting glove because it was so sharp. Cut through mozzarella like a hot knife through butter.

  • Works like a dream!
Style Name: Extra Coarse
While moving into our home a few years ago, somehow our box grater and one-handled cheese graters were lost. Since then I’ve been dragging out the trusty old’ Cuisinart food processor when I’ve needed to shred cheese… which is a quite literally a pain (I have severe DDD) and creates a lot of unnecessary clean up. Because my Microplane grater (which thankfully didn’t become lost in the move) does such a great job zesting citrus and grating fine things, I decided to stick with Microplane, and I’m glad I did! This little grater is amazing! It’s much more handy and takes up a lot less room than an old fashioned, bulky box grater. With a box grater, you need to have a stable surface so you can grate over a plate or paper towel, but you still have to keep it stable with one hand. With this, you can lay the grater horizontally over the top of a plate, bowl, pot or pan, or just hold it at an angle over a dish while you grate, and you don’t need to take up any additional counter space do it! If I wanted to grate huge quantities of food, like multiple heads of cabbage for making sauerkraut or kimchi, I might still break out the food processor, but for 99% of what I need, this handheld grater is so much easier to use! I’d much rather grate a 2 lb block of cheese with this than break out the food processor, swap out the blade for a shredding disc, then deal with clean up of the food processor bowl, cover, food pusher and grating disc (that also would take up a lot of real estate inside the dishwasher). This thing is razor SHARP, so it makes grating much easier than an old fashioned type grater because you don’t have to use as much force. I don’t have the strength I used to have, so I’m thankful for this. You might want to use a cut proof glove for grating, or at least pay very close attention, especially if you’re accustomed using an older style grater. I’ve shredded sharp cheddar cheeses, softer Muenster and Colby cheeses, and it does an excellent job at creating long shreds. Softer cheeses can benefit from a few minutes in the freezer before shredding, but I’ve never had any issues. Clean up with a dish sponge or brush is easy, as long as you clean up soon after using. Just make sure to clean and dry “with the grain” of the shredding holes, and not against, or you’ll shred your sponge or dish towel. I don’t put mine into the dishwasher because I don’t place my expensive knives in there, either. It might be fine to do this once in a while, but I still don’t, since the high heat and detergent chemicals are not exactly the best for sharp blades. This is much easier to clean than the box graters I’ve had, because it was always a pain to reach up I inside to get them thoroughly clean. Love this! I’ll probably purchase additional Microplane graters at some point, to have a variety of shred sizes to choose from. Professional chefs use this style and brand for VERY good reason! ... show more

  • Works great, but the cover…
Style Name: Fine
I have an old microplane with a cover that slides easily on and off. This one does not. It’s much too finicky to want to mess with. But the plane itself is great.

  • So far, so good.
Style Name: Fine
We got this one to replace the other one with the plastic frame. We had broken two of those. Hopefully, this one will hold up better. We often use it to grate ginger, and it is working well thus far.

  • This thing is super sharp
Style Name: Ultra Coarse
I cut myself on this not once, not twice, but three times! Please be careful using. It’s definitely sharp!

  • Best of the Small Graters
Style Name: Fine
I used to swear y my old Microplane rasp grater, but I never did like how narrow it was or the curved sides. I finally got around to trying a flat, wider "Microplane-style" grater, but it did not do a very good job at all (not sharp, not sturdy). So, I went back to the true Microplane, and I couldn't be happier. This grater makes quick, clean, and easy work of zesting, grating ginger or garlic, grating nutmeg or cinnamon, and any other job I ask of it. ... show more

  • Microplanes and crucial accessory
I do a lot of cooking and food prep at home. There are a few gadgets that are indispensable and my Microplane grater was one of them. I wore it out after many years. Other brands just don't work as well or last as long, so I was searching for Microplanes only. I didn't want another plastic frame, as that was what wore out on the old one. Probably didn't like the dishwasher. But on the Microplane web site I found that they make the "Gourmet series" that has a sturdy metal frame. Perfect! I checked them out in a large kitchen supply store and loved what I saw. There are a few other lines of Microplane graters (Professional, Home, and another with the Lexan plastic frame) that are pretty good but not as good. Not shaped quite as well, not as easy to handle. But one real advantage of the Gourmet Series is the "slider attachment" accessory. Only costs a few bucks but it makes it safer to grate food and it fits the Gourmet Series graters perfectly. Only costs a few bucks, too. And the prices of the Gourmet Series are actually better than the other lines. So I purchased the fine and medium graters with the slider accessory. I am really, really pleased with them. Great food handling, handles (cushioned just right) make it easy to grip and manage the graters, and the slider helps with the grating and protects my fingers. I've tried them on a very wide range of materials. Grates nutmeg well (especially with the slider), although I prefer my nutmeg grater for that (kind of shaped like a pepper mill), and handles parmesan cheese like magic. Grate for shaving nuts into a dish, carrots, etc. Haven't run into a problem yet. And they are built very solid. Frame is solid steel, but not overly heavy in weight. Some brands are pretty flimsy and bend after a bit of use. Not these ones. I liked my previous one with the thick plastic frame for that reason, but it cracked with time. Won't happen with the steel ones! ... show more
