Must buy. So much lighter than the first 2 gens of pens, and similar to the pros. If you want a simple quick cheaper by a lot that works for your M2, M4, and regular iPads and Airs, this is it. Works wonderfully and no glitches. Did I mention SUPER lightweight? Yes. No app is needed. I interchangeably use it between iPad 9th gen and IPad 10th gen with No issues. It doesn’t lag nor glitch. I use this pen to take notes for school and work so I use it ALOT. It also comes with several pen tips for replacement, which is easy to change out. Battery lasts all day, maybe even up to 3 days depending on what you’re doing. I do own an Apple Pen 1st gen, but I don’t use it because it’s heavy! And if you take a lot of notes like I do, the sport pen tires your hand- it is noticeably heavier. Besides, the sport pen requires you to install it to your iPad, and say if you want to use another non Apple pen it interferes with it via connection. I now use 2 non brand pens as back up’s and neither give me issues. But if the Apple pen was my back up, it interferes stiff connection and lags or glitches this pen. So keep that in mind. I love this pen, I use it a lot as my go to, and I’m glad I bought it. But it, you won’t regret it. If you’re not a professional artist, you don’t need the Apple pen, you’ll want this trust me!!!     • I was skeptical, but it works as described!
This review is for the metapen Pencil Air 8 for Apple iPad 2018-2024 and at the time of the review was listed for $29.99 (showing a 50% off coupon available). First off this doesn't "connect" to your device. It just works! It's mostly for writing on notes and other such apps and works really good in text based situations. I tested it on an iPad 10 with the Notes, Text, Mail, and Safari (form fill-in). This worked in all the situations I tested it in. I'm looking forward to long time use with this device. Pros: Comfortable feel Works right away (when used correctly) Handwriting recognized and converted to text when expected Extra tips Cons: No holder/case to protect the tip when not in use Not magnetic so cannot stick to side of iPad This is a nice alternative to the name brand product. While it doesn't have pressure sensitivity it does what it's described to do by being able to write with this device without a lot of setup. Be sure that you make sure the settings on your notes allows for handwriting for this to work. I dinged it a star since the "list" price is higher than others in this category and that it doesn't have a way to protect the stylus when not in use. At this price I'd expect it to be better protected or at least have the ability to connect magnetically to the edge of the iPad. ... show more

Overall I give the MetaPen Pencil Air 8 a 5 out of 5 because it’s simple to use and it’s everything I wanted in a pen. I’m just glad I never bought into the Apple hype to overpay for their pen. With that said I haven’t had the pen long, and I hope to use it for years to come. Want to know more read on. The metapen is a great addition for my iPad generation 8. I recently got a new case and keyboard for my iPad and figured I could get a pen. The nice thing about this pen is it doesn’t break the bank compared to Apple products. The pen uses a USB-C connection to charge and it comes with a USB cable for charging which the manual says takes about 45 minutes. The operation of the pen including setup was straightforward requiring no effort on my part because my iPad never had another pen jointed to it. Functionality I was able to complete all of the pen tutorials on the iPad with no issue. The pen simply works and seems to be very accurate, everything I wants in a pen. The Metapen is made in China and that is clearly marked on the box. The instructions in English are understandable and straight forward. The package includes the pen, some extra tips, instructions, USB-C charging cable, and a rubber plug to protect the pen’s charging port. ... show more

This Metapen Pencil Air 8 is a great alternative to a more expensive name brand on the market. When writing on my iPad it has the same feel as a pen gliding across paper. I would never have believed it if I didn't experience it myself. It shipped quickly and was ready to use right out of the package. The package contained the Type C charger to charge it. Once I hooked it up, I plugged it in to charge. Charging took approximately 15 minutes and I have only had to charge it a couple of times this week. It does have palm rejection, which I love because I hate when your hand is gliding across the screen and things open or close or do some other crazy thing.     • Very functional but lacks one features that I miss from my other pen.
I lost my pen and needed one fast for an event. I use it for my 12.9inch iPad Pro. It connects automatically. Turn in on and go. Turns off on its own if you forget. This is great for taking notes, smooth and responsive. The sensitivity, precision and tilt is average with Procreate. The battery lasts long but I don't know when it will run out of juice. I miss having the actual battery power indicator from my other pen. ... show more

I really like the pencil. It is very easy to connect it to Bluetooth, it came fully charged, and it works really well with the Goodnotes app. It is very good with following along with my writing. It does struggle sometimes when you click on something and you may have to click on it a few times and hold the pen at the right angle. Sometimes it doesn’t read what I’m writing but that’s probably just because I write normally and switch to cursive half way through the word so that’s most likely user error. ... show more

Got this as a replacement for a broken apple pencil 2. This has worked perfectly fine for our use with the iPad mini. I have not delved to far into it with what all features it has compared to the apple pencil. But for basic usage I have no complaints about it. It is much lighter compared to the official pencil.
