They're advertised as merino wool. However the actual merino wool content is so low, and the man made fibre content so high, they don't breathe. They don't wick away moisture at all. They're comfy, but they're also the only socks I now own that cause my feet to sweat. Wet feet in winter is disastrous. ... show more

I've never had "knee high" socks before, but these fit and feel great! Bought them for a trip to colder areas, won't have much need to wear them around home, but i look forward to it. They're warm but not super warm; I actually slept in them one night (in a hotel room), and didn't over-heat. I was expecting cold weather but I don't think the temp dropped under 30, nor was I playing in the snow (it rained); so they may or may not be as warm as you need them to be, I just can't say. As far as color, I got the "green and brown" set; but hardly anything on them is green or brown, maybe just the top of the foot. I saw one of the other reviewers had brighter blue which were not listed when I bought mine. I would have chosen that blue instead, but it doesn't really matter that much. ... show more
