  • Excellent Sculpt
Style: Dryptosaurus
Regaliceratops is a unique looking ceratopsian from the Late Cretaceous of Alberta, Canada. It’s known from only a single, spectacular fossil: a phenomenal skull. Mattel has been consistently good with their ceratopsian sculpts, and this Regaliceratops is no exception. The head sculpt captures the Regaliceratops’ elaborate head ornamentation beautifully. The face features some beautiful pebbly scales, as well as some excellent wrinkled skin around the mouth and eyes. The beak and horns have a nice keratinous texturing. The top of the head, and frill are both given larger, flatter scales. Large, almost osteoderm-like scales are scattered about the head too. Even the back of the frill is covered in abundant scale detail! The regal crown of flat, plate-like spikes of the neck frill (which gives this dinosaur its name) is presented nearly perfectly. This is another fairly accurate sculpt by Mattel. They even got the center hornlet on the frill correct. The center hornlet was further forward than the hornlets on the rest of the frill. The only major flaw is that the frill is curved back too much. Moving past the head, the neck, body, and tail are covered in a mix of different scale and wrinkle textures. There are pebbly scales, flat scales, osteoderms, and lots of leathery wrinkles. The larger, flat scales are mostly across the back of the Regaliceratops, while the sides feature a mix of pebbled scales and osteoderms. There are lots of wrinkles throughout as well, particularly around the belly. The scale detail along the belly is a bit softer than the rest of the figure, but still looks great. The limbs are very muscular, and feature some beautiful scale detail as well. While still not scientifically accurate, I appreciate that the feet aren’t the typical stereotypical elephantine feet seen on other Mattel ceratopsians. My favorite detail on this figure are the quills. I never would have expected to see a ceratopsian with quills made by Mattel, but I’m incredibly happy they did it! While there is no direct evidence for Regaliceratops having quills, there is for other members of the ceratopsian family. Psittacosaurus (a close ceratopsian relative), for example, had a large quill patch along the back of its tail. Fossilized skin from Triceratops shows strong evidence of quills, or feather-like structures also. To whichever designer (or designers) thought to add them to this Regaliceratops, I salute you! I also love the stance of the animal. The head is held high and alert, and the tail isn’t dragging. This is a much better neutral pose than any other ceratopsian Mattel has made so far. This figure is just wonderfully sculpted all around. Articulations are the standard. All four limbs can move forward and back. The front legs can swing out wide at the shoulders, and the rear legs can pivot outward a bit at the hips. The tail features the typical pointless rotation. The head movement is tied to the action features. To activate the features, simply rock the switch on the back of the figure side to side. The further you rock it, the more extreme the movement of the head will become. A slight movement will turn the head slightly, but a large movement will cause the head to both turn, and pull inward so that the Regaliceratops can ram its head forward when you release the switch. Each action is accompanied by various roars and grunts as well. The paint applications are really nice on this figure. While I’m not a huge fan of the colors used, the actual pattern and paint coverage is far above the average for a Jurassic figure. There are multiple paint apps across the face and frill, the eyes are painted beautifully, and every single hornlet is tipped in paint. Even the jugal horns! There is patterning from the back of the neck, to just past the base of the tail, and even some applied to the thighs too! The only nitpick I have, (besides the lack of toe claw paint that persists with nearly every figure) is that there is no counter shading on the belly. I am thoroughly impressed with this figure, and with this most recent wave of “Wild Roar” figures in general. This has got to be one of the single best waves of figures Mattel has produced since 2018! Needless to say, this Regaliceratops is highly recommended! It truly lives up to its regal name. ... show more

  • Durable, well-made and great sound/movement
Style: Diabloceratops
As expected, Mattel maintains their production of a great product which was much desired by my little boy. He wished the Dino’s mouth opened, but it is clear that is not included with this model. Durability, leg and head movement and sound meet his expectations. Great addition to the JP collection.

  • Grand daughter loves it for her collection
Style: Dryptosaurus
This was one of several left on my granddaughters wish list. She loves it! Arrived quickly with another picked as well. I knew it worked as the box roared when I picked up the package to bring it in after being delivered. Opened it and saw there is no way to turn it down or off so with every movement it was making a sound. That made me giggle as I thought about all who handled it to get it to my door. Hopefully they are used to it and I apologize and thank all who got it here. You are appreciated. ... show more

  • Great Dino, But No Roar
Style: Kronosaurus
We love this line of dinos, especially this guy. Unfortunately, the "roar" feature is broken on this one and it only makes a mechanical grinding sound when you press the button. Otherwise, we love this kronosaurus.
