  • Excellent 60 Ft Reel Extension Cord. Well Featured.
Style: 60ft Cord Reel
I think I like having an on-off switch next to the outlets on the cylindrical reel. And in addition, it has a power illumination light above the outlets so that you know the power is live and turned on. The #14 wire gage size is adequate for a 60 foot distance and moderate amperage loads. The stated limit for this product is only 375 Watts total when the cord is still coiled inside - and that is not very much power at all. But when you pull all of the cord out of the reel, the limit becomes 1250 Watts at 125 Volts AC. So you may wonder why it can handle triple the power load when it is uncoiled. The reason is the 60 foot long #14 gage wire has some resistance to the flow of electricity and it can get very hot if the power load at the end of the cable is high Wattage. When the cord is coiled up, it is not easy for heat to escape and the heat builds up after a while and it can even melt the insulation and then maybe the bare wires touch each other and can catch on fire. Actually the tighter the coil is neatly lined up next to each other is the worst way for heat to escape because there’s not much in the way of air pockets. If you wind it up messy overlapping at random, then it will probably be able to handle a little more power while coiled up. But follow the rules anyway. It’s 375 Watts total when coiled. When the cord is fully extended, the cord has lots of open space to dissipate the heat. So you should seriously follow all of their rules. If the cable feels warm, you’re probably pushing the limits. There is a red button in the center of the four outlets that is probably a circuit breaker reset button. They call it a built-in overload surge protector. I don’t know if there is any surge protection or if they are confusing surge protection with a circuit breaker. Or maybe they have a special circuit breaker with a surge protector in it. I’ve seen some rather obvious blunders of claims on other products written by people who don’t understand anything what they are saying. So I don’t trust these terse snippets with bullet dots. Whatever, a built-in circuit breaker is a very good feature to have on a quad receptacle extension cord. Pay attention to the total load (Watts) for such things as 1500 Watt heat guns to strip paint. For such applications, you may have the heat gun operating for long periods of time allowing a lot of heat to accumulate in the wire inside the insulated cable. You need bigger wire for that situation. I use a standard non-reel style #12 gage wire cable (cord) for those extension cords. Oddly, the smaller the number, the bigger the wire. So keep that in mind here and at the doctor’s office. Syringe needles use the same gage numbering system. So if a nurse comes at you with a #18 gage needle, run. In contrast, a #25 gage needle is far more pleasant, nearly painless. This same company makes a #16 gage enclosed reel cable and it's half the length. I own it as well. You might see some repetition in it, but it is a little different as it applies to a different product. 30ft Extension Cord Cassette Reel with 4 120V 10amp outlets Oh, one other unique thing I like is the pull ring on the end of the extension cord plug. It’s really handy to poke your finger in it and pull out the cord to whatever length you need. But even more of a convenience, that ring makes it very easy to pull the plug out of your wall power receptacle. ... show more

  • Not a workhorse, but perfect for occasional needs use.
Style: 40ft Cord Reel
This is my second power reel purchase. The first one was industrial quality. This one is shorter by 10 feet and substantially lighter. For some reason, the plugs on this one were hard to use/tight. Moreover, they made using a power washer and charging a battery at the same time difficult. I would say this will work fine for extending the reach of power sources on your deck, but it is a bit light weight for heavier power needs. ... show more

  • Is this worth the cost over a simple velcro tie strap? - maybe
Style: 40ft Cord Reel
If you like gadgets or things that seem to simply your life, then its the little things that make you happy right? Well, if you use extension cords, not talking about those indoor 2-6 feet one but heavy gauge 25+ foot ones. Unwinding them usually ends up with some knots or when finished rolling them back up ends up a snarled mess. So enter this outdoor extension cord reel. In practice does it make this chore better? Yes. Is is worth it? I hate to say, Maybe. Why? For the weekend handy person, this can save some time and frustration. For someone who used extension cords for work, I would say this will not hold up to the daily rigors of a work environment. The reel case is plastic, nothing wrong with plastic IF it is of a heavy thickness, which this is not. To give you some perspective, it is about as thick as 4 or 5 playing cards. I don't think it would survive a 5 foot drop. The overall feel of the reel case, the A/C outlet sockets are flimsy. Now it did what I needed it to, so I don't have any complaints about utility, just for the cost, I would have hoped for something that gives the owner some confidence in the overall construction. The cord itself appears to be sturdy and of decent quality. Held up to 4 hour power washing and two 6 hour electric paint sprayer sessions without any problems. PROS: helps simplify the chore of deploying and securing an extension cord for outdoor or even indoor use. Four outlets and circuit breaker protection. Fairly light weight and relatively compact size. CONS: the reel case feels flimsy, the winding knob feels like it can break off in short order, the A/C outlets feel cheap. Probably won't survive a 5 foot drop, especially when the cord is wound up (heaviest) OVERALL: recommended for light and non-commercial use. Would like the case to be slightly thicker and the winding knob to be metal in a metal to plastic bushing. Cost vs value is med/low ... show more
