  • Not comprehensive, but it’s the best we’ll get for now
First the bad news - this updated encyclopedia is not nearly as comprehensive as one would like. Several characters I wanted entries for are not mentioned at all. Rocket’s friends from Guardians 3 (Lylla, Floor, and Teefs) should have had a page. Matt Murdock (Daredevil) is completely missing, even though he’s been in several different MCU projects now. Tobey and Andrew’s versions of Spider-Man are completely omitted, as well as basically ALL of the heroes & villains from all 3 of the MCU Spider-Man films for some inexplicable reason. Also missing are Charles Xavier and Black Bolt from Doctor Strange 2, among others. Meanwhile, some characters who've barely had ANY screen time or lines at all, such as Bruce’s son Skaar from She-Hulk, somehow got an entire page of their own, when they should’ve just had a blurb at most. Now, having said all that, this is still a must-have book for any hardcore fan of the MCU, as this covers nearly every major character in every MCU movie from Iron Man 1 back in 2008, all the way to Guardians of the Galaxy 3 in 2023, as well as all the Disney+ shows released during that span (except for the Defenders shows that were just recently made canon again). It’s especially fun reading up on the newer content that was not in the previous version of this book released in 2019, from projects like Hawkeye and Quantumania. I just wish Marvel and DK would come together and release a full-fledged encyclopedia that covers EVERYTHING in the MCU - all characters, locations/planets, etc from every movie and show, including ones that are debated as being canon or not (Agents of Shield, Runaways, Cloak and Dagger, etc). THAT would be the ultimate tome to posses, and one I would pay good money for. But for now, this is the best we’re going to get. ... show more

  • Missing some characters
This is a really welcomed updated edition however it was released already not current with all current MCU titles however I knew that when I pre-ordered that it would only go up to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 based on the description. With that said, there are still other characters from films/series missing pre GOTG 3. Missing are characters from: - The Incredible Hulk (only certain characters that cross-over into other MCU films or series are in this, probably due to rights issues) - Spider-Man: Homecoming, Far From Home and No Way Home (only certain characters that cross-over into other MCU films or series are in this, probably due to rights issues) - What If...? (perhaps they don't show up in this book as each character is usually only in one episode) - Eternals (missing Ajak and Thena to name a few) - Moon Knight (not one of these characters appear in the book) - Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (some of the multiverse versions of characters appear, but not all) - Werewolf by Night (not one of these characters appear in this book) There is also no mention of Kang or any of his variants. This may have been a conscientious decision though due to the actor's legal troubles. The following came out after GOTG 3 so they are not in this updated edition: - Secret Invasion - Echo The Marvels was originally intended to be released before GOTG 3 so some of those characters do appear in this book. Lastly, a few characters from the first edition have been removed. Those include: - Christine Everhart from Iron Man - Luis from Ant-Man - Dave from Ant-Man - Kurt from Ant-Man ... show more

  • Good for the characters included, but some weirdly left out
This book covers many of the characters from the MCU and the Disney Marvel TV shows. It does a nice job with the characters it covers, however there are some glaring omissions. The shows 'Moon Knight' and 'Werewolf by Night' aren't included. And while the DOG from 'Hawkeye' has a page dedicated to him, Daredevil is not included in the chapter about 'She-Hulk'. Perhaps the most puzzling omission is that, in the chapter dedicated to 'The Eternals', every single 'Eternal' gets a page except for Thena (played by Angelina Jolie). While her character is mentioned in passing in a couple of the write ups for the other characters, she doesn't get her own entry or any pictures. (I'm assuming there was probably some legal mess involved) ... show more

  • Missing Key Characters
Loved the first edition, this one not so much. For some reason, there are no characters included from 'Moon Knight', 'Werewolf by Night', or 'Secret Invasion'. This is very disappointing for fans such as myself, as I was looking forward to a comprehensive reference book for all Disney-owned MCU content. ... show more
