  • Finally, an elegant durable baking dish that works in my air oven, worth the price.
Color: Porcelain w/ Red Rim
Costs for than the cheap bakeware, but craftmanship and durability is definitely there. Plus, as some high-end French bakeware goes this is actually really a reasonable price. It was hard to get the dimensions on the product page, or from the reviews. Some said 9" X 9", some said 8.5" X 8.5" etc., but to check the fit for placement in an air oven it's 12.1 inches from carry tab to carry tab. The outer width is 9.5" at the top, and 9.1" at the bottom, the bottom inside is 8.6" by my measurements it tapers to 9" inside at the top. The two key measurements are tab to tab, and the outer width. There are definitely some air ovens this will not fit. A lot of air ovens will not support a 12" pizza depth wise. Although many of those will support the width, so this can be used. It works for my current air oven so I'm happy. Porcelain will support extreme heat, so if you want to make a nicely browned deep-dish pizza and cook it at 550 degrees F, the maximum of most full-size ovens, (except for self-clean mode) this will withstand that, although you better have some quality oven mitts. I like to make tuna tetrazine, deep dish apple pie, lasagna, cornbread, and green bean casserole. This helps me make it in the air oven. I had some spare apples I'm wanting to use up, so I took out my automatic peeler and went to work. Into a pot on the stove go brown sugar, lemon juice, 4 pounds of apples peeled and sliced. Add some vanilla and a little bit of pectin. Now the dish I used a canned pie crust, to line the bottom and used a fork to make some holes to prevent bubbles. Prebake the crust till slightly brown, and fill with the apple mixture, then add a top crust in a cross pattern, and bake in the air oven for 22 minutes on 350F. After cooling my square pie (I guess you can still consider it a pie), is golden brown, and sets up with a nice thick filling. This dish has a really good heat transfer, I didn't expect this to come out quite this well. It's definitely first-rate cookware all the way. It will fit probably all full-size ovens just fine, use the measurements here to check for your air oven. It's not likely to fit any of the round ones, but many of the larger square air ovens it will work well in. Love it, recommended. ... show more

  • it would have been 5 stars if this hadn't happened
Unfortunately, this Dish arrived with a giant crack along one corner. Such a shame, because it is otherwise a great dish. Disapointing, i was definitely looking forward to using this.

  • Beautiful, simple baking dish that performs very well!
Color: Porcelain w/ Red Rim
I really like this cooking dish. I also have an oval dish from Made In that's great. So far I've only been impressed with the products they release. These dishes are very well packaged. The box provides plenty of padding and clearance to keep it safe in transit. The dish is well secured in a dedicated cutout. The first thing I noticed about this dish is a small discrepancy with the listing images. The red rim is more of a reddish orange in person. Not a huge deal for me but I know some are very serious about the theme of their kitchen. The dish that I received is not completely glazed, or finished. That glossy finish ends at the bottom edge (see image). I'm actually a fan of the way it looks, but I'm unsure how the bottom of the dish will stand up over time compared to the other finished surfaces. Absolutely nothing sticks to these dishes. I have found them very easy to clean no matter what I throw at them. Sticky, baked on oils or fats wipe right off the the soft side of a sponge. I wouldn't recommend taking scour pads to this dish as it will degrade the finish. I love making brownies in this dish. On other dishes or pans the edges and bottoms stick, whereas in this dish the whole pan of brownie lifts right out after cooling. At the time of writing this review this dish was listed at $69.00. That's definitely expensive for your basic ceramic baking dish. It's definitely a very nice dish that performs well, but at triple the price of other dishes is it worth it? I think the price is justified for a product actually manufactured, in majority by hand, in France (like the product and listing purports). The best indication that I could find that this is the case was on their website with their "Two Centuries of Craftsmanship" video. At the end of the day, this promise of origin and the people it supports is what justifies the considerable price difference to other ceramic dishes. ... show more

  • Made In comes through again
Color: Porcelain w/ Red Rim
I've been very satisfied with the Made In products I've had before (It's a shame they used that name because searching for products with the words "made in" is an invitation for disaster...but I digress). They make lovely porcelain as well as quality cookware that is Made In France (which for me is like a boast as I haven't been...but I digress). These is a nice sized baking and serving dish that can serve a small group amply -- a great place for a fruit cobbler to be baked and presented. The dishes from Made In can be put in freezer, refrigerator, microwave, oven (and broiler) and table, although I wouldn't risk the freezer or bother with the microwave, because what you'll get out of an oven with this is something bubbly and homey. This dish does well with casseroles, smaller roasts and can handle a whole chicken -- beautifully. I do a whole chicken and vegetables that do well here. They clean easily (will go to the dishwasher). I like to wash nice pieces by hand -- it makes them a little nicer as far as I'm concerned, and usually use baking soda followed by a soap soak -- part of that is to make them a little more special for me, but you can be reasonably careless if you choose, but choose not to be. Trying my best, I still occasionally have dropped a utensil or fork and not chipped it. I think that may be lucky -- don't go throwing things at ceramics on my say-so, but kid-gloves aren't needed either. Enjoy! ... show more
