I purchased these for various reasons. One was to use under a plant. It got wet, warped and broke. Not sturdy or practical at all. More for indoor decoration. The bottom feels like particle board or cardboard.

I really like the rustic look of these wood nesting crates, although they seem smaller that the pictures. Could be because I am somewhat dimensionally challenged. Regardless, they are a solid albeit light weight wood, and are built well. The wood is smooth and has a nice finish. I use them to store a variety of small crafting or seasonal items and they serve that purpose quite well. Straight out of the box, I noticed a whiffs of pine and I was already excited to completely unbox. These three storage boxes are useful for many situations and I am so thrilled to have I do not even know where to use them. The white paint looks distressed which is great because I would otherwise worry about using these and messing them up. They look great in the kitchen for towels or other storables that you do not need to read the label as the edges of the boxes are a little high if planning to store cans. I would not want to store anything as rough as cans in this anyway because they are so nice. I may use one or two as catchalls around the home for toys, etc. in case I need to do some quick tidying. Also great for book storage, you can even use it on its side as mini bookshelfs. I love these versatile storage boxes. I don't typically do rustic, I try to aim for more of a Hollywood regency quasi-industrial...I thought about Gold paint, but I don't want to lose that lovely natural pine scent. ... show more

I ordered a set of the brown crates, and they look just as good in person, as in the pictures, from most angles. Some of the wood has indentations on it, and crystalized sap. The insides of the crates didn't get as much attention as the outside. The bottom is slotted into the 4 walls, and they're glued together, then tacked with finishing nails. So, the construction seems pretty solid. I'm not sure what type of wood is used, but they're super light weight. I wouldn't want to put them through any serious use. I'm not too sure what I'm going to do with them yet, but based on how they feel, the decorative nature of them should be emphasized. I'll probably find some knickknacks to toss in them, and put them in a low traffic corner of the room. I was looking more for a hardcore storage solution when I ordered them, but I do like them regardless. ... show more
