I bought this for my Hobie Kayak. I’ve had it installed for about a month now and so far it’s awesome. Installation was very straightforward, but this was not my first kayak installation. The gps charts needed to be updated but that was relatively quick with the app. The features are great as it’s nice to have more than just standard sonar. The touch screen is also really nice. Great device all over. Very functional touchscreen that can be easily seen in sunny weather and through polarized glasses. Sonar detects fish in a real time which is very helpful. Downscan provides a lot of information about what’s going on under water, I was amazed with how it detected movements of my comparatively small lure while jigging. I love lowrance this was exactly what I needed and has not let me down. Buy the additional map card though basemap leaves alot to be desired, however will work for the majority of people.

Got this to replace my 11 year old HDS gen 1 unit. What a big difference. Basic operation is very similar, so was easy for me, and the addition of touch screen make a lot of it much quicker. Very clear high resolution screen. The sonar, down scan, and side scan images are very sharp. The included charts are more than adequate for the coastal fishing I do. I did my own installation, and it was not hard. Running the transducer cable was the trickiest part. The 9" screen is a bit limiting with so much imagry to display. I actually kept my old unit installed (it is too old to share images with ethernet, bit does share data via nmea 2000) and I have used the old one for chart and engine data, and the new one just for sonar/sidescan. That leaves plenty of room for seeing the bottom. Happy with this upgrade. ... show more

This is a fantastic fish finder. Turns out these are the discontinued units from Lowrance but the features and price can't be beat. The software in my new unit was from 2020, but I easily updated it to the June 2023 release from the Lowrance website.     • Fantastic easy to use unit
I have had lowrance units for a long time, so for me it was easy the transition to this new unit. However its full of lots of new features. I purchased it because I also bought the lowrance Halo 24 radar, however, I have not been able to connect them. Lowrance sent me a new cable to see if this solves the issue, but they have been very helpfull. Very slow, but helpfull. The hds-9 communicate esasily with my other lowrance unit, I use sonar in one and the maps in the other. This lets me mark waypoints, baitballs, etc.. in the sonar and then drift to them using the map. Fantastic for saltwater jigging. I do recommend this product. ... show more
