Case is nice and the bow looks good. (This is a gift. I know nothing about violins) A string is hanging off, another one isn't attached to the violin, and there's 3 tuning pegs when there's supposed to be 4 but they are offering to send me a replacement.

This is a nice-looking violin. It's light, easy to hold, and sounds pretty good. The bundle comes with everything you need to get started in a nice carrying case. The only problem I have with it is that it is marketed as a beginner kit yet offers no instructions on how to use the pieces inside. There is an instructional blurb on the product page about setting the bridge and tuning the strings, but the directions are filled with typos and are not overly helpful. I had to look up a few videos on YouTube to figure out how to tune (using the tuner, the strings should be G, D, A, E from thickest to thinnest) and play the instrument (you need to scratch the rosin up and run it along the bow several dozen times to even get a sound from the strings). This set requires research or prior knowledge to actually be used. Overall, this is a great kit and the instrument is very well made, but the lack of instructions makes this difficult to use for beginners. ... show more

I will say, for $99 this violin is probably fine. I don't even know how to play, but I've always wanted to toy with one which is why I got this. That being said, its hard for me to really rate this instrument. It takes some talent just to make a nice sound with a violin, I was able to get the strings to ring out pretty nice even with no experience. The violin is comfortable to hold, and while finicky it was easy enough to tune. The tuner itself was DOA, even with a new battery it didn't work. The rosin block was busted in a few pieces but I was able to keep enough of it together to use. Overall its a good buy just to test the waters and see if you like playing violin, but I don't know that I would buy this for a kid in orchestra, you would probably want something a bit nicer. ... show more

I am very impressed witth the quality of this kit, you get everything you need, well except lessons, but everything physically you need to get started. I went to YT to see how to get it all setup as there really weren't any instructions, and I was off to the races in a few minutes. Look up something like: Setting Up New Violin... and you should be ok. It sounds really nice, but I don't know anything about these things to be honest, but it sounds lovely and I can't wait to get started with lessons! ... show more
