Description

HX Stomp is a professional-grade multi-effects processor that delivers the sound of Helix amps, cabs, and effects in an ultra-compact pedal. Use it as a “super stompbox, ” a backup or travel rig, an add-on tone expander when combined with other modelers, an audio interface—or even a complete guitar or bass rig. The same HX Modeling technology that powers the flagship Helix guitar processor enables HX Stomp to run up to six processing blocks simultaneously, making it the most powerful and flexible stompbox-sized multi- effects processor available. HX Stomp is easy to operate, however, thanks to its simple-but-powerful controls, 320 x 240-pixel color LCD, and capacitive- sensing footswitches with color-coded LED rings. External control via MIDI and optional expression pedal and footswitch control provide additional flexibility, as does I/O that may be configured for sophisticated routing such as simultaneously feeding an amp and a FOH mixer, 4-cable method operation with an amplifier, and studio re-amping. Along with 300+ Helix amps, cabs, and effects—even a looper—HX Stomp includes a legacy library of effects from Line 6 M-Series pedals, as well as from classic Line 6 stompbox modelers such as the DL4, MM4, FM4, and DM4. There are also presets created specifically for bass players, as well as individual bass amp and cab models. The free HX Edit app offers preset librarian functionality and third-party IR loading.

I have been very reluctant to go digital, being a long time purist when it comes to guitar tones. But the technology is finally good enough that it doesn't bother me. What also doesn't bother me is the huge, seemingly endless, variety of tones and effects that this little box can produce. And another thing that doesn't bother me is the ease of being able to integrate this unit into my DAW for home recording. Yes, I believe that the HX Stomp has change the way I view playing guitar in the modern age. It doesn't sound perfect when comparing to purist analog rigs that cost many thousands of dollars, but it does get close enough to perfect to have fun and sound great without thinking much about it. For the price, you simply cannot beat the quality and diversity of sounds that this little black box offers. I'm sold. ... show more

I am a bass player that picked up an HX Stomp in order to downsize my pedal board. I found myself in more and more situations where I was using effects. My pedal board kept growing and I had several units that I had bought for specific uses but hardly ever used. So I picked up an HX Stomp with the idea that it should cover just about anything I needed moving forward and would allow me to simplify and down size. For this purpose the HX Stomp has worked out great! One by one I was able to find a suitable (sometimes better) HX Stomp replacement for each of my pedals. Now I'm down to just three pedals, an EHX Freeze (no replacement for this on the HX), a Source Audio C4 Synth and the HX Stomp. I am able to use the HX Stomp for effects, amp modelling and a DI directly to FOH (I rarely have a gig anymore where I need an amp) and it sounds absolutely great! It is a rock solid piece of gear and is not glitchy at all. The only negative things I can say about it is the learning curve can be a little steep and it takes a while to really dial in the sounds you want, but I still think Line6 did a decent job with the interface considering all the features, options and versatility this device has, and the HX Edit software makes it a good bit easier once you get used to it. ... show more

Once you learn how to use this thing, the sky is the limit. I recommend downloading some presets and ir's. You'll want a good starting point and the stock presets aren't the greatest in my opinion. Definitely experiment with some third party IR's but don't overlook the included cabs and microphones. Many many tones can be made from those alone. Then you have all the amp sims plus the amp/cab combos.... I've found the built in cabs are actually really good. Mostly because of all the different mics you can choose from for each cab. Literally any guitar tone you can think of, you can sculpt it on this thing. The effects, reverbs and delays are plentiful and great sounding. The wahs, whammy and pitch shifters are a lot of fun too if you get an optional expression pedal. (I recommend the M-audio expression pedal. It works good and its cheap) I can't say how it sounds plugged into an amp as a "multi effects" unit because I use amp modeling and run direct into either, a powered studio monitor, headphones, or a 12" Headrush frfr speaker. I would assume the hx stomp would make a great multi effect unit for an amp setup based on the functionality and quality of the effects. It's built like a tank and has mind blowing power for something so small. It's worth it's price absolutely. Support is top notch. No cons. Only positives. *if you're looking for a desktop stand for the hx stomp, a small bookstand works great. You can see how I use it in my pictures. ... show more

I have been a plugin player recently and this unit has been excellent vs what I have in plugins. The flexibility is insane and it sounds fantastic. Great value for the money. It sounds great with my current pedals, and now I have everything I need consolidated on one small board.

    • I finally have the setup I always wanted.

I only like to have one guitar at a time. I don’t want to be a gear head I want to be a guitarist. I use this with a acoustic and fishman rare earth sound hole pickup. Then I feed it out to a head rush frfr “flat cabinet” or into headphones. I can get as distorted/boosted as I like with this setup. I can play most rock songs, fuzz it up or just add some light boost with a hint of phaser to the accoustic tone. No feedback because I noise gate the input. This is truely amazing piece of kit and I’m always getting compliments from people who like how nice my tones are. I had the XL but frankly it’s too big, and the main draw of this thing is the preamps and cabinets and IR. Onboard effects are nice but you have to take your time to stack them and adjust individual settings. When you start with HX EDIT you’ll want to wipe all the presets and build your own. To learn I downloaded a few “customtone” presets made by the Hx stomp community and started tweaking them. This unit shines alone as a small compact setup, or as a part of a modern “micro” pedalboard. I am so happy with my purchase. ... show more
