  • Better To Have And Not Need - Highly Recommended!
We bought three of these LifeHammer "Emergency Hammers" after watching the "Mythbusters" episodes on escaping from a sinking car. We live in the mountains with a lot winding roads, often with water at the bottom, and these Hammers seem like a worthwhile and prudent precaution. Here are my observations: + Colorful; bright orange makes it easy to see + Very Pointy; both hammer ends are very pointy and I don't doubt at all that they could break a car side window + Sharp Seatbelt Cutter; well protected so you can't get your fingers in it, tested with a ribbon and it cut easily + Plastic Holder; works surprisingly well to cover the pointy bits and is east to remove quickly As my title says, it is better to have and not need than to need and not have. Highly Recommended! Here is the single on we also bought LifeHammer Orange Original Emergency Hammer CFH ... show more

  • Nice emergency backup item
We have these now in both vehicles. Have not had to use them. They feel of good durability and quality. I have seen demonstrations of how easily the point will shatter glass. If I never need to use it that's fine, otherwise it will be worth it should the need arise. I bought one before because I heard a story a couple years back where a woman was trapped in her car, it was on fire, and none of the stopped motorists had any way to break her window or cut the belt. A man ran home and brought back a hammer or something to finally get her out, but it was nearly too late. I have also heard stories of cars going off the road into water, or upside down in water, and having door jammed and no power window functional. If I can save our lives or the life of another it is a good item. ... show more

  • Saved My 8-Year-Old's Life
I was driving in our minivan alone with my three kids on the interstate when I noticed my 8-year-old had wrapped an unused seatbelt around his neck. When I asked him to remove it, we realized it was locked and would only take in slack, not let go of slack and he was stuck. The problem is it was tightening and taking in slack and we couldn't get it unlatched. I pulled over at the next exit and by then he was crying, having difficulty breathing and turning red. I ran around the side to unlatch the seatbelt, but because it was the smaller latch plate for the middle row, center seat and too tightly nestled in between the seats to reach, we were unable to detach it. We were all panicking, my trapped child was unable to speak easily and the nearest gas station was about a half-mile away. I knew what I had to do. I purchased this tool in 2008 - eight years prior - after watching a news story about how handy and life saving they could be. It has followed me from vehicle to vehicle for the last eight years with this single purpose - to save the life of my child on that August 2016 day. I grabbed it from the console and with two easy tugs it sliced through the seatbelt like butter while protecting his neck from any sharp part of the tool. I was talking with my child recently and he said "Mom, you should write a review on Amazon! Tell them I give it five-stars because it saved my life!" Done. ... show more

  • Pretty much what I expected, other than the plastic handle
This is pretty much what I was expecting, except for the fact that the handle is molded hollow plastic - minus one star for that. We live right near a river that both my wife and I cross daily. We always think about what would happen if we somehow went into the river. We also have children that are riding with us on a daily basis. While I realize that the chances of rescuing ourselves is limited, it drops to almost zero unless you have some tools to help you get out. I don't have any reason to believe that it would not work in an emergency situation, and it seems very solid. Still, I was expecting a little more heft to the product. The base that it mounts in is nice, although I doubt I would screw this into my car somewhere. For now, it lives in my console and it there in case I (hopefully never) need it. Helps us to feel a bit better, and who knows when it may be needed. ... show more

  • Worth the piece of mind
So happy to have these in our cars. I bought these to have in each vehicle and it help provide peace of mind in case of an emergency. They are lightweight but solid. The seat belt cutter is easy to find on the unit and is nicely covered to protect you and your car when not needed. The hammer portion for the glass seems solid and appears to work well. Hopefully I will never need to know for sure! ... show more

  • Top Quality
Even though there are cheaper products like this, I bought the original Life Hammer based on good reviews and an expectation of top quality. I was not disappointed. I ordered 4 sets of two for myself and other family members. It's cheap insurance to help protect my family. The product is hefty, well constructed, and comes with a handy holder that can be mounted just about anywhere in a car. However, I chose to remove mine from the holder and simply carry it in the center console of my car. In an accident the holder and hammer could come loose and be anywhere after the crash, since it's only held on by double-sided tape. In the console, I at least know where to start looking for it. I can't comment on how well it works. I hope I never have to find out. ... show more
