  • Made a difference
My daughter’s clock stopped working and she enjoyed watching the ticking back-and-forth. It was grinding and no longer moving fluidly. This oil definitely lubricated and made the clock work like new again. The size of the end of the nozzle definitely made it simple to get the oil into the area.

  • Works great for old clocks
I have an old pendulum clock. You don’t want to use anything heavy that is going to collect dust and gum up your movements. This is a lightweight clock oil. Easy to use, performs well, convenient small size. Good value

  • >> DOES THE JOB
> The applicator worked well, depositing a small drop exactly where I wanted it. However, according to various websites, any synthetic oil (including auto motor oil) will do for cuckoo clocks, and can just as easily be applied with a toothpick. TIPS ON OILING CUCKOO CLOCKS > A major enemy of any clock (or computer, for that matter) is dust -- especially when you add oil which attracts dust and turn it into a grit in the bearings. So first thoroughly blow any dust away with canned air. A small brush is helpful for dislodging thick accumulations. Some folks use mini-vacuum cleaners, but canned air works fine. > Move the various levers and connectors to find additional moving surfaces on the clock mechanism which move, and therefore need oiling. > Let the oil soak in for a while -- at least 5 minutes, and then wipe any excess. Q-Tips are helpful for this. > Run the clock to move the oil around. If the clock runs a minute or so and stops, a little extra weight on the drive weights may get it going, but remove the extra weights after a few hours -- don't use extra weight permanently. USING WD40 INSTEAD > Unfortunately, oiling the accessible bearing points did not work for my clock. It would have been necessary to also oil the bearing surfaces on the face side of the clock, which would have required major disassembly of my clock. Ultimately, I choose against major disassembly and instead sprayed the clock mechanism with WD40. Theoretically, that's NOT a good idea. Oil attracts dust, which hypothetically will be "dragged" into the bearing surfaces, and become an abrasive grit. Moreover, WD40 is a very thin oil, theoretically a thicker oil will protect the surfaces better. But, clock gears don't move fast -- it's not like an electric motor. In actual practice, the lighter oil may work just as well. > To use WD40, first thoroughly clean the clock with canned air. Carefully, and sparingly, spray the mechanism with WD40. Be careful not to spray the bellows. Maybe set the clock on the face so some of the oil will get to less accessible bearing surfaces on the far side of the clock. Let the oil soak in for a while -- I suggest 1/2 hour. Blow away excess oil with canned air. Wipe away any additional oil you can with Q-Tips, etc. > Fortunately, WD40 is such a light oil that the excess oil will eventually evaporate. The oil in the bearing surfaces (not in contact with open air) will evaporate much more slowly -- probably over many years. ... show more

  • Revived My 27 Year Old Clock!
I've had a brass mantle clock I got back in 1997. Lately it was taking 5 plus minutes to chime through the hours. One drop of this in all the pivot holes and it is back to normal! Thank you!
