  • Excellent picture!
Style: HU70LAB.AUS
I purchased this to replace an Optoma UHD-65 with a stuck pixel. I was hesitant due to reviews stating that LED was not as bright as traditional bulbs. I have to say, this is a complete non-issue in my light controlled theater room. It's more than bright enough and I had to dial it back quite a bit to get a well calibrated picture. The reds were still too bright but luckily there's an adjustment for each individual color. The color reproduction is exceptional and the LG picture holds up much better under ambient light than the Optoma did. Casual viewing is quite acceptable with a fair amount of light in the room when watching sporting events, etc. Of course movies, which typically have more dark scenes, will always look better in a darkened room. The backlit remote is quite nice, and the virtual onscreen mouse combined with the built-in smart features is very handy. The ability to watch Netflix, Vudu, Disney+, YouTube, Prime Video, etc. without having to fire up the Xbox is something I'll use more than I expected to. If only there was a Hulu app, all my streaming needs would be met. There are ample picture adjustments available, although not all of them are well documented (ie. Dynamic Color, Super Resolution). It may take some experimentation to determine exactly what these do. For now, I've left them turned off. The LG definitely has a shorter throw than my Optoma did, requiring me to move the projector about two feet closed to the screen. But it is much smaller, lighter, and quieter than the Optoma. The decision to separate the power block into a separate unit is unusual. I can understand why they did it (smaller form factor), but for a ceiling mount it's awkward. If you're mounting on a shelf instead, it's probably a net benefit. All in all, I'm very pleased with this purchase. I watched a number of reviews prior to purchasing, and most of them commented what a good deal this was at $1800. To get it under $1000 was a fantastic bargain. ... show more

  • Pretty good for the price
Style: HU70LAB.AUS
It is quiet enough the fan noise is not noticeable even within few feet of my head. The picture quality is good, but it is not a true 4K. Read the PDF manual which is linked from the web page. I purchased this to use as a PC monitor and needed full resolution, but it turns out the resolution has to be reduced for the best quality. The user interface is easy to use. It has a built-in TV turner which I don't see much use as most people probably use a separate streaming or cable box. The picture is not that bright and cannot be used in daylight. The room does not have to be dark, but it needs a dim room. It can be placed on a table, but ceiling mounting is the best to keep it out of the way. It needs to be horizontally centered at the lens (not the body) for the best focus because it only has vertical adjustment. This was a good starting projector at a reasonable price. I would go for the laser one the next time if I can afford it so that it can be used in daylight. ... show more

  • Great Projector, But Has App Issues
Style: HU70LAB.AUS
Generally, I’m very impressed with this projector, with one main glaring issue that I’ll get to in a moment. First off, I bought this projector to replace an old projector in our home theater. It is mounted permanently from the ceiling. I mainly chose this projector for its 4K capability, its ARC support, its Ethernet jack (for streaming movies, hardwired Ethernet beats WiFi hands down), and its mechanical zoom lens (the ceiling mount and screen were already installed so I needed the zoom lens to fit the picture to the available screen size at the distance the projector would be shooting from). It has an on-board speaker, but we’ll never use it in a home theater. The picture is very bright in a darker home theater—with all the lights up full bright darker night scenes are difficult to see, but we never watch movies with the lights on anyway. Setup was easy. My main disappointment is that this projector will not support the YouTube TV app, which is what we use for everyday TV. Generally, this would not be an issue since we mostly just watch movies in the theater, but it would have been nice to retreat to the theater to watch some live 4K football games. I did call LG support (non-native english speakers on the other end) and was told that this projector is outdated and the software is not capable of running YouTube TV’s app. I’m not sure what other newer apps will not work either. Since that is my only issue, I will drop my rating to 4 stars, although, if I had known this issue, I would not have bought this projector. If you’re considering this projector for all its other great features, I recommend calling LG support to see if this model can run the apps you use. ... show more
