  • A bit under powered ... but it works okay
Style: Single
I ordered this amp and a Pyle 90 watt amp as well. The goal was to replace an old receiver which is powering 2 sets of speakers, with an Alexa Echo as the only input. The Pyle won out. The key issues were. 1) When the Echo was set to volume 10, as an input for both the mini amps, the Lepy just couldn't handle the higher input power. 2) You could tell the difference on the outputs, the 90 watt Pyle is just stronger then this 20 watt amp. This amp does make for a nice desktop amp, if you want to upgrade your music with PC etc. ... show more

  • Better than the original and it just keeps getting better.

I have a 40-year-old amp with the original TA2020 chip. It was never a bad little amp. Purists threw a fit when Texas Instruments bought the rights and "modified" it. Check out the reviews and you'll see people that have the new TI version love it. They did improve the sound. I also purchased a LEHOU 6 amp power supply. This is the great little amp that could. This is perfect for a dorm, apartment, workshop, office, etc.. Pair this with a set of Micca speakers and you'll be surprised. Connect a Bluetooth receiver and you'll have a tiny system that rivals a full-size stereo. Hide it on a bookshelf and amaze your friends. You can even mount the amp on a wall or under a shelf. As for the blue LED's surrounding the volume knob, perhaps Lepy listened. Mine has a gentle blue glow that's very pleasing, not bright at all. I have this little amp and 4" Micca speakers on a bookshelf in my office. When I crank it up it sounds great throughout the house! You'd NEVER believe the system is this small! The little Micca speakers have bass that rivals 8" drivers. The Leppy amp is not 100 watts, but you'd really never know. It sounds very clear and natural. The bass is strong but not boomy. The highs are crystal clear. Even at full power, it does not distort. My intent was and still is, to restore my 40-year-old vintage amp. But this really has me questioning that decision. I'm very impressed with this little Lepy. Advantages of the replacement power supply: The longer cord is nice, and it's like a laptop supply. No transformer plug. I hid the supply under a shelf. The power supply itself isn't breaking a sweat. It's completely cool to the touch. The Lepy has the additional power it needs for punchy bass. ***UPDATE*** I restored my 40-year-old vintage receiver to good as new. The problem is, it took a week or so to the stuff I needed. During that time I had everything playing on this little Lepy. It was so smooth, balanced, natural, warm, and clear. The sound just got better and better. Now I've got a big, expensive, powerful receiver that can deliver everything the Micca speakers need... and it sounds like crap! At first, I thought the speakers came alive with this receiver. Now I think perhaps they were just screaming in pain. The sound quality of this little Lepy is just as amazing as the Micca speakers. They're a match made in Amazon heaven. Well, I guess the good news is, the old receiver is heavy! It has a gigantic transformer inside that must contain miles of copper. The payout for the scrap at the recycling plant will more than pay for the Lepy. Then again, you could easily dig enough change out of your couch cushions to pay for the Lepy! Trust me, if you're even THINKING of putting together a new sound system, GET THIS! Pair it with a $50 pair of Micca MB42 bookshelf speakers. Play it for a week. If you don't absolutely LOVE it you can flame me here and on my website day and night. I'm that confident you'll say it was the best $85 you ever spent. $24 for the Lepy and $11 for the upgraded power supply, plus $50 for the speakers... current prices as of the time of this review. Update 7/28/20: The original purchase date was 7/29/2018, so we are just about 2 years to the day when my beloved Lepy broke. It still works, kind of, if I don't touch the wires. I rearranged my office. My speakers are no longer on shelves on the back wall of my office. I bought floor stands and placed them behind my desk. The Lepy is on my desk. In the process, one of the speaker clips broke. I managed to put it back together, but it's not right. My Fosi DAC/Headphone Amp is on top of the Lepy, but the wires were pulling it down it the back. I put a couple of strips of double-sided foam tape to secure the units together. In the process, ANOTHER speaker clip broke. I found the spring but not the clip. I finally found the clip and lost the spring! in the interim, I just twisted a couple of pieces of speaker wire together and jammed it in! It's working as long as I don't move anything. Now I'm torn. Do I buy another Lepy, which has served me well for 2 years? It's inexpensive and sounds amazing. Don't let the bad reviews fool you. The Texas Instruments TPA3118 chip is the "improved" version of the TriPath 2020A. Anyone who says "not even close" has no clue what they're talking about. And 20 watts in its day WAS a power-house. Most amps were 15 watts. Want to bump it up to 50x2? Attach a heat-sink to the chip and use a 24-volt power supply. Or, do I go with the FOSI 100x2 using the TPA3116 chips? It's still the same TriPath family. I don't need the extra power but the Fosi has banana posts that will never break. No, I love the Lepy. I'll buy another AND repair/upgrade this one with a heatsink, power supply, and new spring clip block. I'll also have extra parts up upgrade the new one too. It'll go on the patio with a Bluetooth receiver and a pair of Polk Atriums when we get a pool or in the RV. ... show more

  • Very decent quality for the price
Style: Single
Decent class D amplifier. It sounds much bigger than it looks. Don’t expect refined quality from this unit though. It will be quite sufficient to please a small party crowd in the living room. However, if you’re running a pair of quality speakers and hope for refined HiFi sound, you should pass on this little hero. ... show more

  • Long term review
Style: Single
I bought this amplifier in 2019, still works/sounds great. Using it with a behringer equalizer and Micca bookshelf speakers with a sub. The setup is still going strong…I suppose now that I’ve said that, I probably jinxed myself and something will go wrong lol. But, so far, so good. Recommend

  • Perfect

I have a streaming Station (radioKAIR) and needed an Amp to power a set of speakers placed outside the station. It works perfect and looks quiet snazzy in the studio. The fidelity is incredible. Yep, a keeper for sure.

  • Speaker connector fell out; the unit generates waves of static
Style: Single
This unit was fine for the first two years. We keep it on a shelf, and it almost never moves. However, one of the two speaker connectors fell out of the housing, making it very difficult to remain connected to a speaker wire. Perhaps related to this, the unit now also generates waves of static noise in direction proportion to the volume control. It is not useful in this condition. ... show more

  • This is PERFECT!
Style: Single
So we had a Radio, CD player, and AUX unit that finally died after 35 years! The brand was TEAC ... so it was a machine of pure quality. And to last for four decades (and several moves, getting banged around), hey, for $79 it served us well. That said, when the AUX feature quit working, we no longer had a way to play Sirius XM radio over my 50+ years old JBL air-suspension speakers (they're still AWESOME). So I ordered this unit, only needing an amplifier to plug my JBL's into ... and this unit ... I tell ya ... from the minute I hooked it up (which is brainless to do) and turned it on ... well, my JBL's have never sound richer, deeper, more full than ever ... just like when I first got them! It's a booming, solid, absolutely PERFECT sound ... you couldn't ask for more. And I know some of the reviews complained about not enough watts, but, hey, these are perfect ... and at full/fool blast, the sound rattles the windows. What more could you need? Buy this if you don't care about having a radio or CD player or AUX connection. You just hook one thing into this. That's it and it is PERFECTION! ... show more

  • Handy little amplifier
Style: Single
I purchased this to provide audio from my Samsung Smart TV to a wired bathroom speaker. This function used to work with a former TV because I hooked it to the speaker inside the TV. However, I did NOT want to open the back of my new Samsung, so I grabbed the audio from the external audio jack. Alas, the Samsung did not have enough audio power from its external output to provide listenable volume to the bathroom speaker. This little amp solved the problem; volume on the unit is easily adjustable and you can turn off the audio feed completely. One handy switch on the unit does it. What I do not like is the "blue-light" around the volume switch. A small LED would have sufficed but this large blue light ring is a distraction at night. One has to turn off the unit to get rid of it. This was not a deal breaker for me. I just turn off the unit. But if that blue light wasn't there and so darn bright, then I wouldn't have to turn off the amp every night. I'm now thinking of putting some paint around the light ring..but that's a workaround that seems more complicated than just clicking off the switch. ... show more
