  • Superb for birding
Color: Black Size: 10x25
I do bird photography so I am carrying heavy loads on tripod or handheld. So adding a regular binocular is a pain. In many cases, I use my camera to watch the birds anyways so I didn't miss binocs much. I also had a the same Leica monocular that was super useful with a caveat that I have to use both hands to focus which defeated the purpose. Recently I started to shoot specialized video that added more weight and less room for binocular. Also I have to scout using binoculars as the video VF is a bit complex to observe (with all the guides enabled I am totally shooting by wire). I thought of buying this and I wish I did that long time ago. It is perfect, lightweight - super bright. it just hangs on my neck and I can use single hand to focus and hold etc. It folds into the palm so can easily fit in the pocket if you are going to sports events or concerts. It is a bit expensive and you can get dedicated bird watching binoculars. But for super portability, great quality this is good. good binoculars stay for life so if it serves the purpose the price is usually right. ... show more

  • Compared to Swarovski and Zeiss, the compact Leica is for me!
Color: Black Size: 8x20
I extensively researched compact binoculars, which I intend to be a lifetime purchase for wildlife viewing from my house, day hiking binos, but also for concerts and for travel, like looking at architectual features. I purchased 3 highly rated binoculars: 1) Swarovski 46201 CL Pocket 8x25 Binoculars for $819, 2) Zeiss Terra ED Pocket Binoculars, 8x25 Pocket for $350 and 3) these Leica Trinovid BCA 8x20 Binocular with Case for $457. I wear glasses so having good eye relief was very important and right off the bat it was apparent the Zeiss Terra's didn't provide that. The other two binoculars were BOTH AMAZING! The Swarovski's were a bit heavier at 12oz but felt more comfortable in the hand and have a slightly better field of vision. But ultimately I chose to keep the Leica Trinovid because it afforded the same fabulous crispness and brightness of the Swarovski even in low light, and they are so very compact and lightweight, at only 7.5 ounces! They say the best binocular is the one you will actually use, and I will think nothing of slipping this baby into my pocket or daypack for an outing. When I found myself going back and forth between the Swarovski and the Leica trying and trying to decide which had better optics, I just looked at the price difference of $362 and that decided me! ... show more

  • Superb compact binoculars
Color: Black Size: 8x20
Armed with a hand-held GPS and camera, I spend a lot of time hiking alone in remote areas of Colorado National Monument as a volunteer looking for and plotting the locations of archaeological sites. I'm also a bird photographer. It's always useful to have a pair of binoculars handy for both pursuits, but not convenient to carry a full-size pair. I bought these compact Leica 8 X 20 binoculars to replace a set of slightly bulkier Minolta compacts I've owned for perhaps thirty years. What a difference! They offer a conspicuous improvement in clarity and sharpness, quality of build, and feel. A high eye-point and snap-down eyecups enable me to enjoy a full field of view while wearing glasses. It's evident that a great deal of thought and care went into the design and construction of these Leica binoculars. They feel solid and exhibit elegant workmanship. Some reviewers have complained that the supplied Cordura nylon belt-case is too tight. The sense I have is that it's roomy enough to accommodate either the 8 X 20s or the larger 10 X 25s. The binoculars come with a convenient neck strap. Once attached, it's easy to grasp a loop of the strap and pull the glasses out of their case. As promised by the vendor, I had the binoculars in-hand two days after placing my order. ... show more

  • Chose between 8 and 10 power
Color: Black Size: 10x25
I wanted a very small pair of good binoculars for hiking and ordered the 8 and 10 power Leicas to see which I liked better since these are the smallest binos I could find. They were both great quality and did not find that the shake factor of the difference in power figured in. The 10 power is slightly longer and this bothered me until I noticed that the case for each was exactly the same so they would take the same area of my pack so I chose the 10s. The weight was a little less than .7 ounce. ... show more

  • Wish I had purchased them sooner
Color: Black Size: 10x25
Wish I had purchased them sooner. I travel quite a bit and carry binoculars with me for birding and wildlife viewing. Always was frustrated with the weight and bulk of the binoculars I carried with me. I doubted that these little binoculars would visually compare with my Zeiss and Swarovski mid and full sized binos. These truly are fantastic. Clear glass, light weight, eyeglass wearer friendly and oh so compact. They don't take the place of my mid and full sized binos in every situation, but they certainly fill a void in my choices. These can will be used alot in years to come. Just wish I had purchased them a long time ago. ... show more

  • Precisely what I needed and then some...AND use the right technique!
Color: Black Size: 8x20
The problem with binoculars is that they are not easy to make nor easy to use. Quality comes with a price. What I like about this model is that it has been around for sometime and all the mechanical bugs taken out. It is not cheap but it is not the price level demanded by other top branded bino makers. The Trinovid is the entry level of Leica range but this bino does not feel it. Extremely sharp and small and easy to use and carry around as I wanted. Also works very well as a concert bino. The KEY FACTOR to using binoculars is technique. The two ways of stabilising it to prevent shake is to hold your hand as a fist with base of thumb under your nose and using face/fist as an anchor, let the bino sit on top of the knuckles and use other hand to focus. This will change how you will enjoy the bino. ... show more

  • Great optics, but…
Color: Black Size: 8x20
…ten years after purchasing, this set of binoculars is still offgassing a penetrant chemical smell. I find that astounding. And I have friends with chemical sensitivities who would be unable to use them. The great Leica could do better, I think.

  • Very pleased with these compacts
Color: Black Size: 10x25
We are life long bird watchers and own Leica 10 X 42 Trinovid full sized binoculars for over 25years but now that we are older the weight of them is sometimes a issue these 10 x 42 compacts are only 9 oz ea and are every bit as clear as the full size they have a smaller field of vision but that hasn't been an issue for us you can carry these with you anywhere very pleased. ... show more
