Le Creuset used to make this in metal, which you need to withstand the pressure of tough corks, particularly the artificial ones that are everywhere. This is two piece plastic that will split in half under heavy pressure. I bought a metal one and it lasted for several years because it is one piece. I've had one of these for many years. It still works perfectly. Have uncorked hundreds of bottles and can't recall that it's ever let me down. This one was bought as a spare, and seems essentially identical to my original one. Highly recommended.
