  • Good hockey skates for beginners but may be too much skate for beginner.
Size: Medium (13J-3) Color: Black
Good hockey skates, adjustable in half sizes from 13 to 3, plenty of support for small ankle, feet, and med width. Adjuster is easy to use and secure. Great price for these, they retail for $49 at Sports Auth or similair. These are very stiff when new, it may take time to conform more to the skaters feet & ankle. These were tied tight and skaters feet hurt at sides and corners, hockey coach tied them tighter and it was better. So they need to be laced tight, like real hockey skates. The normal recreational Lake Placid adjustable skates, were not so tight -you could get them to be, but feet didnt hurt either way. They were more narrow and never had a complaint about hurting the feets. So for better ankle support, wider foot, and hockey boot type fit, these are the skates for your small one learning hockey. If it doesnt matter, and foot is slimmer, maybe the normal recreational skates are fine, which also adjust but not in as many increments. These feel like they click 2 or 3 times for a full size adjustment, the recreational skates - we had the blue with straps and laces, they adjusted in whole sizes only. But they fit ok and sturdy size adjust. Must really carefully get the foot in there, once its in its fine. (These boot skates are easy to put on but must lace up well, which takes time.) Have read that Lake Placid recreational skates with straps only, no laces, (orange and red models) the straps come loose frequently. ... show more

  • So far so good, working great
Size: Medium (13J-3) Color: Black
Son loves learning to skate. Great that these are adjustable. My son is 6 and we're on smallest setting. I think he's on gymboree size 13 shoe and just got measured at Stride Rite as size 13. Worth the cost that he has his own pair and should fit for years, let's see if his love of hockey lasts so long. We're sure to keep them dry after each session too and we'll see how they hold up as he learns to skate. You will need to have them sharpened at your local rink/shop. Call ahead to find out cost if need be. Either way, nice to not use a rental and he knows his skate so that they don't hinder him and his getting out there. Probably will pay for themselves if we go skating 10 times or so, so I figured I'd take the risk. Good gamble so far. Got myself some too on Amazon and am having fun too. Great exercise. ... show more

  • well made, but run very big
Size: Medium (13J-3) Color: Black
My son wears a size 1.5 shoe and the mediums (13-3) are too big even on the smallest setting. With that said, they seem well made. Nice and sturdy. Blade construction seems decent. He can't wait till they fit and tries them on every day hoping his feet grew enough overnight! I'm guessing they won't fit until he's at least a solid 2, maybe 2.5. I'll try to update once they fit him and he's had a chance to break them in a little. ... show more

  • Too wide
Size: Medium (13J-3) Color: Black
If your child is seriously trying to learn how to play hockey these will not work. The mechanism that makes them adjustable sizes causes the skates to be wider than they should be.

  • Good skate for money
Size: Medium (13J-3) Color: Black
My grandson couldn't skate in them at first because I guess I didn't tie them tightly enough . After the first time I tied then very tight and kept them like that till his next lesson. ( material is very stiff). They are getting better though .

  • Decent Beginner Skates
Size: Medium (13J-3) Color: Black
Decent skates, they come sharpened, love the adjustable sizing. The only downside is that the boots could be a slightly bigger / taller, offering more ankle support. The boot material isn't as stiff as mainstream skate brands.
