I bought this when my other brand backup failed. I was shocked the other brand failed after only a bit over a year of using it. I got this Lacie in a state of modified panic. My MacBook Air was fine, but one never knows. I ordered Lacie and got it the next day. I backed my time machine onto it and it took about 2 hours or so the first time. Easy as pie!! Each subsequent backup has taken about 5 minutes or less. This is a very sturdy backup. Very very very happy. Not expensive either. I'm a Lacie person now. This may be premature but this is the nicest hard drive that I have ever owned. I was going to purchase a less expensive drive that would give me more storage (like the 12 tb) but I am glad that I didn't. First of all, I read some of the reviews that spoke negatively on the cord that comes with it. I was fortunate enough to have a slot on my laptop for it. I LOVE the cord. Not only does it free up an extra usb port but most importantly it may be one of reasons I was able to transfer 260gbs in an hour. I'm not always up on the latest so to me, that's lightning. Did I forget to mention that while it was transferring those 260gb, I didn't hear a sound. With those qualities you would think that this drive needs to be plugged into a wall.....Nope. Lastly, I actually like the orange casing. This hard drive is handling heavy workloads with ease. The orange vest seems appropriate. 5 stars all the way. Stop searching. This review is for the LaCie Rugged SSD Pro 1TB Solid State Drive — USB-C Thunderbolt 3. I'm using it as an external SSD for a Mac Mini w/ Thunderbolt 3. It comes formatted in exFAT which works on both Mac and PCs but it will be dedicated to a Mac Mini so it's best formatted as APFS for best speed. It took about 1sec to do that. It copied a movie file of 70 GB from the internal SSD in less than 10 sec. To do an encrypted Time Machine backup of the entire 256 GB SSD internal storage it took less than 15 mins. It's blazing fast and I'm impressed. Small enough to fit in a shirt pocket and super light. Unless I have a problem and need to come back to update this review it stands as it is. ... show more

I had not backed up my old Mac in years ! It was so easy to use, it was a very fast process and the quality seem great. I still have storage in it to back up anything else I need. It’s a fast and durable, good looking little drive. Great price for what you get. The cable is laughably short. I know usb c drives throttle speeds with usb a to usb c cables, so I used an Amazon cable advertised to be like 10gb/s and my speeds with this were 30mb/s or slower. So slow photoshop froze and I lost two fully designed files when I force shut down my system… I used a usb a to usb c cable that came with my old Samsung external ssd and it was faster… like 300mb/s. I’ve yet to find a cable fast enough to hit anywhere close to the advertised speeds for this drive, but honestly I’m content with the 300mb/s. Just know you may have similar issues so pay attention to transfer speeds with whatever cable you’re using. ... show more

I've been looking at this drive for awhile, but hesitated because I was afraid it would have issues "talking" to my Mac. I plugged it in and it was immediately right there on my desktop. I clicked on the icon and it led me through a couple of seconds of prep, them immediately connected, I had to erase the disk to prepare it for Time Machine, but it led me through that and went so fast as in seconds.
