  • I would recommend this over the Neewer equivalent.
I would recommend this over the Neewer equivalent. This SUPON light is around the same price and has a lot more going for it. The panel is larger yet much thinner, can run on both battery power and through a wall outlet (the Neewer can only do batteries), has a higher quality feel (the Neewer has a plastic housing that feels much cheaper), has more feedback and control (an actual display with a knob instead of the Neewer's dial with almost no information or feedback), and the quality of light is much softer without the need for external diffusion. The one benefit to buying the Neewer brand is that their light is brighter than this SUPON one. That's not to say that this light doesn't have a good light output — it does — but the Neewer light can get much brighter. One final thing to note that could either be positive or negative is that this light shuts off immediately when the battery runs out. The Neewer, by comparison, starts to slowly and subtly dim and fade as the battery runs out. Personally, I prefer having the SUPON light cut off immediately. With the Neewer, sometimes I don't notice that it's been gradually fading out and getting progressively darker over the course of 20 minutes, which ruins a lot of the footage without us realizing. Just something to keep in mind. • Good value
My first impressions are how small it is. I did not note the size and bought this model only since a online personality suggested it for my needs. It has a mesh screen that diffuses the light and you can see the LED's around the edge. As I adjusted the color, I noticed the Cool White LED's dimmed while the Warm White LED's brighten between them. I counted 58 Cool and Warm White LED's in case your wondering, since I do not remember seeing a LED count in the description. To me, it's brightest is at 4400K and 4500K, since all of the mentioned 116 LED's are on at once. I can perceive a change in color quality at 4400K as I jump to 4500K at all brightness levels. I can not perceive a brightness shift at 100% but I believe I see a brightness shift as I go from 4400K to 4500K at 20% brightness. I'm sure that is perception so I'm sure that is not an real issue. The cold shoe has a thread that I was able to mount to a tripod I already own but I feel that a quick disconnect would be nice investment. That way I can take it off faster during tear down but that is my first impression of the cold shoe and my tripod combo. The cold shoe side has a large disk to mount to a camera shoe or other accessory adapter which I believe will come in handy when I over tighten this to a accessory shoe. The extra size will give me more leverage and hopefully keep me from finding pliers to get the leverage I need to remove it. I personally appreciate the notch on the top that keeps the light in place as I tighten it to the mount, I can see it drifting out of alignment with the axis. The axis is adjustable 180 degrees and is kept in place with a large wing nut. The mount screw is inside a rectangle block and twisting it tightens the light to the top of the mount. Simple but effective but I can see it being over tightened and needing those pliers to leverage them apart. I do believe the grooves are deep and spaced apart enough to help make sure I do not need those pliers and can do this with my bare hands. I decided to buy the suggested ac adapter, which I find too short at about 3'. We have several extension cords for the 5.5mm x 2.1mm plug so I am able to move the light to where I need it without buying extra cords at this time. The plug fits flush with the body which I do appreciate despite being as I said, too short. I do plan on buying batteries but chose to save that till after I had a chance to test this to make sure it meets my needs. My biggest con with the light is that it does not have a remote, but at this price I can buy 2 of these for the price of 1 remote based device's. Other than not having the luxury of dimming past 20%, my initial impressions are that this is a good light for the price. ... show more

  • Cool Lil Light
Light is bright, adjustable temp, and cheap. Battery life and light consistency seems good. Light gets warm and not hot in any way.. Seems like nice field light with plenty of power. Simple to use. Light does not pan really, only tilt. Very tight pan and plastic so it feels like it can't really be turned left to right from atop a camera. Am I missing something? Is the adapter supposed to loosen the pan? Kinda feels like it would break the shoe adapter or wear down and loosen if it was turned to much left to right. We will see. Tilt nice and locks light into position fine because light is so light...weight. Just would like to see the pan have a small lock or make pan adjustable with top screw that tightens to light. USB 3 direct to battery. No charging bay or wall adapter even. Very cool. Also adapter for direct to a power/battery supply. Could be used in conjunction with boom stand like others mentioned for workbenches, closets, desk, etc. Would like a filter holder or box to spread this light a little better. ... show more

  • Love it, so far...
Wish I had bought two of these, will be ordering another one later. Great light unit. Saw someone talking about these lights on YouTube and wanted to try one out. It works better than I had hoped. You can adjust the brightness and temperature of the light. The unit did not come with a battery nor a power unit. Right now I'm powering the light with a power transformer that came with one of those LED light strips. Those transformers are typically 12VDC and have the same plug that this light uses. I'm probably going to buy a few batteries and another power transformer later. I plan on using this light mounted to a tripod and to light some small size objects to be photographed. Going to see how it works with one of those white nylon photo booth cubes. I'm pretty happy with my purchase. This is the power supply I'm using.
