Features

  • [PORTABLE SET] Includes the essential tools you need to draw a picture, all in a compact box! Each kit is packed with 14 Gansai Tambi paint colors, as well as travel-sized drawing pen (MANGAKA 01) and a refillable water brush pen (Medium size).
  • [USABILITY] Versatile for a wide variety of professional or hobbyist applications. Ideal for sketching, painting, cartooning, illustration, cardmaking, and more. This field sketch kit is perfect for using on the go or at home.
  • [14 COLORS] GANSAI TAMBI is traditional, Japanese watercolor, developing colors that are based off of those seen in nature. Colors are vivid and opaque, and pans are carefully fill so that the paint is smooth, rather than granulated, and dries with a slight sheen. Individual pans are replaceable.
  • [MANGAKA] Fine pen for line drawing. Developed by incorporating the thoughts and techniques of professional Japanese cartoonists with the experience of Kuretake production. Since it contains water-based pigment ink, ink will not bleed or mix with water once it has dried completely.
  • [BRUSH2O MEDIUM] Kuretake water brush pen included has a small size and body shape making it comfotable to hold. Easily control the flow of water simply by adjusting the pressure applied to the body. There is no need to use brush washing chemicals, as it is self cleaning. Using the versatile brush, you can easily color both narrow, delicate ranges in painting, as well as larger areas.

  • Nice creamy paint, tho they don’t give much.
Style: One Size
I like the paints. The pans were not full, but that’s how Gansai pours their paints. The palette is great, small enough for travel and with a lot of mixing area. It’s great that it also holds a waterbrush and pen. I’m not sure the paints are artist grade. There is no pigment info provided. I need to play with them more to see what they can do, but so far its good. ... show more

  • ***BE WARY OF UNFILLED PANS***
Style: One Size
I absolutely love Kuretake products, and this palette is a great size and well made - my only gripe is that several of the pans were barely filled. This has been an ongoing issue, and I would've been aware of it had I read the reviews lol. I didn't really notice right away, and have since used the palette so returning it isn't an option, sadly, and I can't afford to buy another. Kuretake, please address this issue - I'm guessing whatever machinery you use in the production of these palettes needs to be calibrated. The artists who use your wonderful products will thank you. ... show more

  • My favorite plastic travel palette!
Style: One Size
I own several plastic and metal watercolor boxes and this one is my absolute favorite. Not only is it one of the most compact, I also feel like there is almost no space wasted in this set. It has 9 generously sized wells for mixing colors, as well as a space to fit 2 pens or water brushes, or a combination of whatever pen-shaped art supply you choose. It comes with 14 small pans of gansai tambi paints, which are very different from western watercolors. They are creamy and easy to activate, and most of them are opaque or semi-opaque. They mix well together, and because of the split primary color selection it's easy to mix any color you want that isn't already included in the set. There are also lots of convenience colors included, including a black and a white. Many people dislike these colors, especially in a set with limited colors, but since there are 14 colors included in this set it's easier to look past. The set comes with a water brush and a teeny tiny 01 Mangaka fineliner. Basically, all you need is some water, paper, and washcloth and you're all set! I don't love water brushes but the Kuretake ones are probably my favorite of the ones I've tried. The water flow is pretty even and they come to a nice point. I included a photo of a sketch I made using only the supplies included in this sketch, on Canson XL watercolor paper. So, all in all I am thrilled with this purchase. I tend to impulse buy lots of different art supplies so I'm very familiar with buyer's remorse, but I had absolutely no regrets with this set. If you're thinking about buying it, I say you should go for it. ... show more

  • Excited to use these on my next trip!
Style: One Size
I bought this pan because I love the color manufacturer, and it was the perfect size for traveling. I tested it this weekend to see how easy it would be to use on the road. I do think you'd have to set it on something flat to paint, but it was very easy to use. It's very lightweight, and the colors were gorgeous. I really like that it comes with a rose/pink, and grey. It saves time on mixing that when you're on a time crunch. Also, all the panels where you can mix paint were great! First time trying to paint like that and it was so nice! My only note is that the water pen is small and doesn't hold a lot of water. I found I had to use a second water pen to finish the picture I was working on. You might want to take a water bottle just to refill water later. Overall, really excited to use the heck out of it! ... show more

  • So I’ve been using these for a while initially I like them
Style: One Size
I had to edit this I’ve had it for a while now and on the hot days the paint melted in their pan and got all over each other the white just ruined everything just leaked out the two light colors white and beige and then they’re all just very soft like if you touch them your fingers actually like the paint like groups onto them and it’s a very soft paint do not keep it in the travel pallet I thought it would be good for travel but it’s Niti need to keep these it in a cool room Or they will melt all over each other The first time this happened I got some splashing and when I tried to get to Colorado it didn’t come out the other colors and I had to paint it out and then it kind of just kept changing the color I went home and now the white melted all over everything so don’t bring it out where it’s gonna be hot do not leave it in your car I didn’t leave it in my car but I suspect travel artist might be drawing and painting and then toss their stuff in their car and maybe go to the store real quick or whatever you know so that could have detrimental effect on your pants especially if they’re tilted in your bag which is what happened with mine and I noticed the paint do actually go quickly The more commonly used color is the browns in the blues and the greens went quickly I had full pans and I’ve only used it a few times and there are like half full this is OK for somebody who is a beginner gonna keep it in their studio space if they’re in high school whatever is gonna stay on their desk at home or in their locker at school and not be traveling back-and-forth Paint blend well don’t get me wrong email on the wet on wet technique they have great movement it really is just the softness when they’re dry and how they react to weather kinda ruined the pallet on me ... show more

  • Such a fun set!
Style: One Size
I do art videos on YouTube, so I bought this set to review, and I love it! It's really easy to use, the colors re-wet nicely, the water brush works great, even for fine details, and the liner is handy to have when you're ready to sign (or line!) your painting or sketches. The natural beige and grey are really unique colors that I've come to really enjoy. I've used it in about 6 or more small paintings as of the time of this review. Just a warning: the pans are not very full, but even with 6+ paintings, you can hardly even tell I've used out of them, so they will still last quite a while. Just hope they come out with replacement pans soon, but even if they don't, I will refill any empty pans in the future with my other watercolors because the palette that comes with this set is worth the price of the set as it is. It's a really cool palette! ... show more
