Measure your dog's chest and neck circumferences and select the size. For a Dachshund, they will all be too short to cover to the tail BUT they are cut perfectly so that a male dog can potty without the coat interfering or getting dirty. The hood is detachable. This was our pup's first coat so he messed with getting his front leg free for about 24 hours then left it alone. He wags his tail when he sees the coat coming out to be out on him. Perfect shape for Bucky. Her long back turns other sweaters/coats into miniskirts. The amount of stretch in the chest area is ample for her. The neckline and "arm" slots are soft enough to not chafe. The hood is cute, but not really practical, and is easily snapped off. The coat actually cups a bit near her tail, keeping it from curling up as most coats have done. Haven't needed to launder it yet, but construction and fabric appear to be sturdy. Our winters aren't brutal, but this coat is great for our Southern California pup. ... show more

Pros: I measured our dog, bought according to the size guide, and this fit perfectly. Our Chiweenie loves the coat and the hood is generous enough to fold back to show the fleece. Very cute. The gray piping on the hood is highly reflective. The stretch knit over the dog's tummy is comfortable and sensibly fitted so that it doesn't get peed on. Cons: The coat fabric is thinner than I'd expected. The outer checkered fabric is a sateen-type look and feel, and the fleece is thin. This is not a snow coat, but works to take the chill off or protect against a light rain. Even though I was expecting a heavier coat (which is on me--I should have read the description more closely), I would definitely buy this again. It's well made and our dog likes to wear it. I have 2 Miniature White Schnauzers. I use a coat on the 12 year old to keep her warm and on the 4 year old to keep him clean (because he is crazy and runs through the snow and mud.) These coats are easy to get on and off, provide enough warmth and enough coverage to meet the needs of both dogs. Plus, they are super cute on. So I gave them 3 stars to balance the extremes of how I feel about this. 2 stars for quality and 4 for being willing to replace it when I complained about the hood snaps coming off within 5 minutes of putting this on our dog. Bought this for my 2 year old Yorkie and it fits her perfectly. It’s a size small. Only downfall when in a rush is it goes over her head as opposed to my other dogs coats that Velcro around their necks and body for easy on/off. However, this one is much warmer and fuzzy on the inside. She seems to like it. Especially on really cold days here in NY. Definitely worth the money!!! ... show more
