Loading up spices isn't the greatest experience with the little chute on the side. Not horribly hard but also not that easy. Using it is pretty good, it gets a bit tiresome holding the grinder itself when griding spices unlike a traditional mill because your ratchet hand it kinda shaking it about. It's most effective I feel so far if you don't turn the full 180 degrees but really more like a 90 degree wedge with 45 degrees left/right. It works a bit more effectively and isn't so wobbly to hold. Despite the ceramic grinder piece you are not to use cloves which melts plastic when ground which is not ideal as mortar grinding cloves isn't fun. ... show more

This pepper mill is great if your hand has trouble making the twist movement. I have trigger finger and this little gadget does the trick. I merely move the lever back and forth, no more turning. The way to refill the peppercorns is absolutely brilliantly designed. The only thing is that it seems to require more force to keep the base steady against the lever movement as it's usually used in air over a pot/pan/dish. I bought this for grinding peppercorns and - it is just perfect! I was so tired of trying to grind fresh pepper using a twist-top grinder which is very difficult to turn. This grinder is so easy to use and works perfectly. So happy with it!

I've been so happy with that gift that I bought this one to replace the salt mill I had. I love that they come in different colors. I use black for pepper and white for salt.
