  • Buy this product; it's fantastic!
Stop comparing knee scooters and buy this one! It's great. I currently live in the Middle East; it is dusty and sandy, roads are often unpaved or uneven, handicapped access is nearly non-existent, and there are many stairs and few ramps. This scooter goes everywhere easily except through sand. I was nervous after the wheels were so dusty and sandy that it was going to be ruined, but it's doing great and I've been using it for about 4 weeks now. I go slowly on uneven ground so that I don't flip off of it, but it works great and turns easily so I'm able to maneuver around pot holes, rocks, deeper patches of sand, and people, furniture, or other objects. The lack of ADA-accessible buildings and sidewalks means I often have to lift up the front wheels onto a curb, stand on my good foot, and lift the back wheels up, and it's light enough to do that. It has to be carried up and down stairs, and even my 74 year-old mother who is here helping out while I'm injured is able to lift it in/out of the car and up/down off of steps. It was easy to assemble, and didn't take long. The basket is tricky: it's advertised that it can come on/off, but it does not easily come on/off. I know others mentioned having to bend the meal to get it on, and that actually isn't the case; we did not bend the metal, but my husband who is in fantastic shape and very strong had to push very hard to get it on; it fit without bending the metal. I think it's supposed to be tight so that it doesn't slip off when you're picking up/putting it in the trunk, etc., but the basket really just takes quite a bit of muscle to get on. I couldn't get it on and I'm fairly strong as well. There is a black plastic knob right above the hooks for the basket which makes sliding the basket on difficult, so you have to hold the basket at an angle and push down hard until the basket bypasses the knob and slides into the basket hooks. It also folds down, and we've been able to fit it into the trunk of a car without taking the basket off. And, the padding: it just so happens that the knee I have to lean on has had multiple surgeries, and kneeling can become painful after a while. Even so, I'm able to be out and about for quite some time before having pain in my knee. It does have a decent pad on it. The heat makes my leg pretty sweaty on the vinyl, so I would invest in a soft cover if I were to need this during the hotter months. However, as far as cushion goes, it's keeping my knee with screws in it pretty comfortable. I'm extremely satisfied with this product, and I'm so happy I bought one with a basket. I've got young children, so I can carry their miscellaneous things, and when I go grocery shopping I have a place for my purse and a few items. Honestly, this product gave me my mobility back and I'm thrilled with it in every way. It's held up perfectly, and considering the heat, humidity, dust, sand, and tons of bumps it goes over, I know it has to be made well. It works as well now as it did when I first started using it. It has a hand break, but not a wheel lock. I've gone down steep hills with it; I squeeze the hand break and slide my foot on the ground to slow myself. When I'm on well-maintained ground it has a nice, smooth ride. I'm 5'4'' and I an adjust the handle bars and knee pad for my height. I can't believe anyone would give this product anything other than 5 stars. I purchased from the seller "Medical for You" and it was packaged perfectly and arrived quickly. • Lifesaver if you are on one foot for a while
This thing is great. It is very sturdy, fully adjustable to fit your height. and comfortable to use. The steering used on this scooter is much more stable than other brands we looked at where the whole front axle pivots taking away stability when turning. The draw back is that it has a bit of a wide steering radius requiring a lot of forward and back when trying to maneuver in tight spaces. This thing rolls very smoothly so watch your toes on your good foot. Now, all I ask is for KneeRover to improve the parking brake as it does not stay locked and your scooter rolls away leaving you stranded. The rolling away thing only happened twice but the brake never stays locked. That being said, it is still a GREAT scooter. ... show more

  • Very helpful to have alternative to crutches
Ruptured my Achilles tendon and was looking for an alternative method for getting around. This is a great alternative to crutches. I currently split the time between the crutches and the Knee Rover. It gives me a chance to rest my arms and hands which get sore from the crutches, and it makes it much easier to pickup and move things with one hand, or using the basket. It also allows me to play ball with the dog and gives be a spot to sit and rest for a few minutes. The Knee Rover is well built and well packaged. It does require assembly, but it's straight forward. The brake is very useful and works well. The basket is very sturdy and easy remove and replace. Overall, this was a great purchase which made a big difference for me. ... show more

  • Well-built
A knee scooter is much easier and faster than crutches. I got it because most of my joints are bothered by arthritis. I was concerned that hobbling around on crutches would aggravate my wrist. But I was also concerned that a knee scooter might trouble my knee, but that hasn't been the case. I like the automotive steering because the front wheel track doesn't narrow when making a turn as straight axle scooters do. Therefore, the KneeRover stays stable in a turn. When I went from the post-surgery wrap to a hard cast, the edge of the cast pressed into my shin uncomfortably until I folded a towel to raise my knee up to the level of the cast as it sat on the scooter's knee pad. The drum brake is also good and operates smoothly. It locks like a parking brake with the push of a button--a feature I've used often. The unit is heavy for its size (compared to my mountain bike, for example). But the maker has to be concerned with liability, of course, so it has to be strong. The welds all look good and neat. The detachable basket is useful but is easily removed for folding the scooter for transport in the car. My one suggested improvement, and the only reason I didn't rate this with 5 stars, would be with the steering geometry. The turning wheels remain parallel to each other no matter how sharp the turn. This causes scrubbing of the tires, and unwanted braking action, during anything but slight turns. During a turn, the inside wheel should turn sharper than the outside wheel because it is turning a shorter radius. The steering knuckles are angled in to try to accommodate the smaller turning circle, but not enough to prevent the scrubbing. If you intend to use the scooter outside or over uneven surfaces, larger wheels would be better, perhaps even pneumatic. Final analysis, I get around quite a bit faster than a regular walk with the KneeRover, to the amusement of those who see me whiz by. Thankfully, though, I'll get the cast off in a couple more days. I bought the scooter instead of renting one locally because the cost to me was only about $25 more. Now others in my church can borrow it when necessary and avoid the cost altogether. ... show more
