I bought this for my grandson to have at our house to play with. The description for the item says 0-12 months, however, the box says 6 Months+. The age on the box is more accurate. These balls are too big for a newborn or infant to hold. When I first received the ball set my grandson was 5 months old and his hands were not big enough yet to grab and hold the balls. By the time he was just over 6 months he was able to grab the balls, hold them and play with them. The balls are stored in a cute little sport duffle bag. The balls are soft and each one either jingles, squeaks, rattles, or crinkles. It is boxed nicely and would make a nice gift. ... show more

This is an adorable 'first tackle box' for a baby. The material is soft and squishy, with a foam layer, apparently, between the outer denim-like twill material and the inner polyester. The stitching is all very good and the little "My First Tackle Box" embroidery is really cute. The set comes with a little 'fishing pole' which is plush and has a little round bobber and a 'hook' that is just a little ball with some velcro on it. There are three fishies that you can pick up with the velcro hook while holding the little rod. The rod does have a short length of rope. One reviewer was concerned that it could get wrapped around a little one's neck. I'm not sure about that, but I'd supervise use of anything with a cord. The fish are sort of cartoonish and cute. Everything is colorful and should engage a little one and once they figure out the idea is to 'hook' the fish, it should provide a lot of fun and entertainment. The lure on the end of the fishing pole has a velcro strip to catch the (microfiber?) fish. The red/yellow fish on the right has a rattle inside. Everything packs neatly into the tackle box. The fishing rod itself is not the sturdiest, but I get why it needs to be soft. It just makes it a little more challenging to get the lure to catch one of the fishies. Everything arrived safely, but it was mushed and squished into a smaller cardboard box for shipping. I'm honestly surprised that it didn't come vac-sealed in a flat envelope. The fish made the transit ok, but the tackle box needed some reshaping. I also stuffed it full of clean newsprint and left it sitting out so it would hopefully regain a boxy form. I say it is great for newborn boys but it is also a cute gift to give to a sports dad for his newborn daughter. I am very big on giving newborn boys their first sports balls and little girls their first dolls. What I liked about this was that it does not have any buttons or anything that is not recommended for young kids. It comes in a great carrying case and inside are all the little different sports balls. Great giftable item but when I got it, I decided to keep it for a future grandchild. I ordered this My First Sports Bag because I thought it be cute to use for newborn photos for my son. The bag was adorable and well made and was decently priced. The size is perfect for baby too. This bag and sensory balls came in handy to go with my son's monthly milestone photos, especially because is milestone blanket was sport themed. The balls were very soft and good size for little one.
