Everything about this experience was awesome! I've never used this brand before, but I ordered two gallons of this for a bedroom re-do, and it arrived perfect shape - packaging was great, no damage to the box or the cans, no leaks. It also arrived in two days flat, which I never thought was possible for custom tinted paint straight to my front porch. Honestly, it takes me more than two days to get sufficiently motivated to go stand in the paint line at Home Depot for two hours on a Saturday - this experience was so. much. better. The paint has a beautiful, rich color that was exactly as expected based on the swatch on Amazon, and it is really thick (like milkshake thick) so it applied great. It says to apply 2 coats....but I didn't. One coat of this looked better than multiple coats of the old paint given the quality of the Tribute paint. This is my go-to paint now. It looks so good I want to do the rest of the house - and without that paint line on Saturday morning, I probably now have the time. ... show more

From the name Typewriter, I assumed the paint would be gray but then again on two different computer screens I tried here, it looked exactly -- I mean 100%-- like BM's Hale Navy. I thought, "hey possible budget version of Hale Navy" and bought it, being okay with either the dark gray or dark blue. It's definitely not Hale Navy; it's lighter and not nearly as blue. So what color DID I just paint my kitchen? Hard to say. Most see black and won't be talked out of it. But when I hung up a black picture frame for comparison, it looked a very dark green (and there was a lot of green floating on the top of the can before I mixed the paint). Other times in certain lights it's more deep purple and several times we definitely swore it was navy after all. So...."deep gray with slight green undertones," like Kilz officially says it is? Kinda. Maybe. Overall it is a nice rich color I can live with. It makes the white trim pop, like I like. Just beware, it may not be true to screen (or even Kilz's description, necessarily) for you either. A better name for the paint would be Blackboard, the older ones not the newer green chalkboards. The real problem was the application. I just finished another room with a can of dark-colored Aura from BM. Painting over the same off-white as in my kitchen (& same finishes, brushes, room temp), that room only took one coat with a couple of minor touch ups. This Kilz took three full stinking coats and you can still see a couple roller strokes and a few white flecks. I've been working on the same room for a week. Imagine what that would cost you if using professional painters. With so many coats built up on it, the frog tape failed in one big section and took off some chunks from the neighboring wall. boo. And for having a primer in it, Tribute does not cover the patched areas well. You can easily spot those. They look like grease stains. I'm disappointed in how long it took and surprised nobody else had the same experience. It would have been great to say this is the last paint I'll ever buy like some of you (maybe you all bought lighter colored paint?), but instead, that was the last can I'll ever buy of Kilz, except for the basic white stuff used to cover stains. I'm sensitive to smells (migraines) and barely smelled anything from the Kilz. It's a tiny bit of a sour smell when I leave the house and come back to it, but still, almost undetectable. Aura was even less so, but the paints are pretty close to a draw in that regard. Overall, for my stress levels, I'll stick with Aura. Saving thirty or so bucks wasn't worth it to me. Edited to add: I tried to get rid of the roller strokes by rolling over them but inadvertently created...more roller strokes even though it's been under 2 weeks since being painted. I even used a new roller and pan, just to be fully safe because this paint is so finicky. I mixed well every time. What a disaster. I'm downgrading it to one star. ... show more

Very pleased with this paint! It is a rich color which gives the bathroom a warm feeling and that’s exactly what I was going for :) coverage was great, the green went over one coat of a light blue with a truly beautiful finish after two coats! My only complaint is that it didn’t come with a stir stick so I had to find something around the house to use to avoid going to Home Depot..not enough to dock a star but was a little inconvenient so keep this in mind if you choose to order any of these paints. Overall thrilled with the product and will consider buying again if I muster the energy for another project! ... show more

I'm an older female and very inexperienced painter who was so pleasantly surprised (notwithstanding the many top reviews) at how easy this paint was to work with. First, the muted neutral green shade Palo Verde is beyond beautiful in its ability to establish a pop of change-up color while still seeming totally at home with existing furniture and décor elements destined to remain in the space. The coverage, in addition, was excellent as I alternated between roller and brush application to finish different areas. (I was changing just parts of my 650 sq. ft. apartment, doing selected walls only.) Painting over bright white and then ivory, I did decide to do a second coat to achieve a virtually flawless finish but can understand why several reviewers found that this could be bypassed. AND it was incredibly low in odor. Though I considered this paint to be pricey when I first found it on Amazon, I now think it was a really good buy. ... show more

    • Horrible Yellow Color! Will Not Purchase this Brand Again!

This paint ios nowhere near the color shown online or on the sample. It is a sickly yellow color. I love Kilz and was excited to try this paint from them. I ordered Palo Verde, expecting a calm serene green color. Instead, the color I received is horrible (yes, I painted in on pure white and waited for it to dry). I have good natural light in that room but have also tried it under warm and cool bulbs, hoping to salvage the gallon (that I can't return). I am not sure why some people receive a matching color, and others receive something totally different. I guess it's kind of a lottery. Unless you have money to throw away, I would be careful ordering this paint. ... show more

This paint rolls on beautifully with ease. I originally purchased a cheaper paint that after 3 coats on one wall, I gave up and ordered this can and there's an amazing difference. Covers right over Sheetrock and seems. I also pulled down 1970's wallpaper and it covered some of the remnants of where part of the plaster pulled away. If you want a beautiful job with less time and work, spend the extra money! Note: the only thing thrown away in the original bathroom was the old curtain. ... show more
