    • Easy, quick, reliable, with inexpensive strips.
This is a very simple device, as are most in this category. There is one button on the front to turn it on/off when reviewing history (the unit comes on automatically when a strip is inserted and turns off when it is removed, otherwise it will time out and power off automatically). There is another button behind the battery cover for date/time settings along with a sliding switch that is not explained in the manual and doesn't appear to do anything. I have only used the buttons once each. Once for setup and the other when I forgot to log my reading and turned it on for review. Regarding the strips, all of the strips I have purchased worked flawlessly. The only errors encountered were with the strips that came with the unit. HOWEVER, simply removing and reinserting the strips worked every time. Interestingly, the strips purchased in addition to the unit are branded though the ones that came with it were not. My purchase included everything needed to get started, the lance, lancets, strips, batteries, and a reasonably nice case that holds everything. The additional strips are packaged 40 to a box and are in 4 separate viles. As such, I am less concerned with the lifespan since, at most, only 10 strips are exposed at a time. Hence, the selling point for individually wrapped strips seems moot. The lancets are generic and inexpensive on Amazon. This unit only measures ketones, which is all I needed. Also, any data collected by the meter will need to be manually entered elsewhere since this does not have bluetooth and a corresponding app. That isn't an issue at all since the Apple Health app does not seem to record or syndicate ketone levels like it does for glucose and other macros. As such the I app I use to track all things Keto-Diet-related (CarbManager) cannot import the data anyway since it is unavailable. This is my first meter and I found it simple and seemingly reliable. I say "seemingly" because I don't have any lab equipment to use as a benchmark. I would recommend it to family or friends if the topic arose. ... show more

    • Is it accurate? IDK. Seems consistent
I bought a ketone blood level meter because the urine test strips are not of much use once you've been on keto for a time. (At first you have a lot of unused ketones that register in urine as they are eliminated. Once you become adapted to using them for energy, you don't excrete them as much, so you need to measure the levels of where the ketones reside, ie your blood.) Anyway, this meter seems fine. Easy to use and the price was fair. Accuracy is a mystery because I don't have any other reference. Consistency is more important. This meter does seem consistent because my readings correspond to my food intake and energy demands during the day. Test media/lancet costs are identical to KetoMojo units (made in the same plant maybe?) at $1 a test. The zippered test kit pouch is adequately made and is a great way to keep your tester secure when taking it on the go. I've no complaints with this purchase. ... show more

    • Works Well: Needs Reference Range Table
When following a diet low in carbohydrates, it is nice to have the ability to monitor ketone bodies in the blood. This product is far superior to the urine test strips people more commonly use. The test kit comes with everything you need to start testing: lancets, lancet device, test strips, monitor with digital display, and batteries. I had to refer to the directions for installing the lancets, it wasn't very intuitive in my opinion. The directions were clear so it was fairly simple and easy to use (4 stars). The reading was also simple, but I could not find a table with the reference ranges. Without the reference range, or prior knowledge of the reference range, the reading isn't too useful and it is for this reason I rated the 'easy to read' category 3 stars. For accuracy, I rated the product 5 stars because I do believe it is accurate. Overall, this is a great product. ... show more

    • Very accurate and handy for a t1d!!
I bought this originally to track ketones for my type 1 diabetes. I wasn't having any high blood sugars, so should not have been spilling ketones, but wanted to test just to make sure it worked and was accurate. The first test showed a bit higher than normal ketones, 6 hours later, ketones were "high", 4 hours after that, ketones were "Very High"......I felt horrible and eventually went to the ER. I was in full-on diabetic Ketoacidosis. It was just a fluke that I decided just a few days before to switch from the urine testing to this meter and the blood testing, and I am SO glad I did! I was using Rhine strips to test my ketone levels and decided I wanted to be more accurate so I purchased KetoDocs Ketone Blood Monitor. The whole process is quick, easy, and relatively painless. It come with a nice constrained of testing strips and easy to use, sterile lancelets. I love that it does not require much blood for results, and results take only 19 seconds. My only concern is testing may be expensive. I am always a little worried I am knocked out if Ketosis so I used the 10 strips between myself and my wife within a week. This set comes with 10. Replacements average about $1 a piece. So you may be limited by the number of tests your run unless you are rich enough to splurge on strips. I also wish there was some literature about what the results mean. If I get a 1.2 how does that compare to a 1.0. I do not like depending on google to answer these questions. ... show more

    • Impossible to set up, horrible directions, cheaply made
Size: Slim
The directions are ridiculously hard to follow. It is impossible to even set the time. The strips didn't even fit into the meter. I spent a half hour trying to get this thing set up and to work to no avail. Don't waste your money.
