This is a great neutral backdrop for photographing small items to put on eBay. As other reviewers have mentioned, it comes tightly folded up and has lots of wrinkles, at first. I washed it on a Delicate Cold Water Cycle two times, then air dried it and there are still wrinkles in it. I overcome this by changing the depth-of-field on my camera to limit the focus to just the subject and not the background. Overall, I am happy with it. The fabric is a nice weight that seems sturdy.     • The color (teal) is not as dark as the photo on Amazon suggests.
I own a very similar backdrop from Kate -- a dark blue, underscore "dark" which is in their description -- that I like a lot and use often. So when I wanted a similar pattern but in teal, I ordered this one. Perhaps I should have heeded the name of the item. Whereas the blue one is called "dark blue" and the brown one "dark brown" (I do not own the latter), this one is described as "teal" with no reference to "dark". However, based on the photos on the Amazon page, it appeared that this teal one would be dark enough. Maybe not as dark as the blue one, but dark enough. I was disappointingly wrong. It is very light teal. If the center of the pattern was as dark as the edges (the 1' or so around the four edges), it would be fine. But alas. In a video test with good lighting, cropping in on my talking head as I usually do (I do picture in picture with a slide show in the background), the teal color was barely discernible. It looks like I'm sitting in front of a stained white sheet. So I'm going to return it. I'm still going to give this a 4-star. The quality of the material is good and shipping was fast, even during a holiday season. If the teal color was accurate, I'd give it a 5. I hope Kate will introduce a "dark teal" in the future. I like the quality of this product. It seems heavy and durable. My only complaint is that it was a little hard to get wrinkles out at first but I misted it with water and put it in the dryer for a few minutes and then it was fine. I rolled it up for future use and not sure if it’s going to be wrinkly after that or not. The pattern of the background looks very nice on my photos. ... show more

This is my third backdrop from Kate. I bought the first one several years ago, and the next two very recently. I use them as backgrounds for portraits and headshots in a small professional studio setting. I usually shoot people separated from the background enough for it to come out of focus, leaving color and the impression of texture. This also smooths any imperfections like nicks and runs that might develop in the material. I appreciate the classic look that they help me achieve. The main aspect I would like to note here is that the material has improved significantly since the first backdrop I purchased. It has always been made from microfiber, but now it is a slightly thicker material with less of a "grain" compared to previous such products from this company. Also, the sleeve at the top for inserting a crossbar on a background stand is about twice as deep, making it a lot easier to place over a pole. These are very significant improvements, without an appreciable increase in weight. Much has been made by other reviewers of the lines formed by folding the backdrop for shipping. I quite appreciate how light and compact this makes the product for easy shipping. After I open each backdrop I simply hang it up on a background stand and use a hand steamer to smooth out the seams, which takes just a few minutes. The best way to store these is upright, but rolling them onto roll them over a tube or pole. A 2-3 inch PVC pipe available at any hardware store is a good option. These are worth a lot more than they cost. Fortunately, they are very reasonably priced, attractive, and easy to use, which makes it affordable to purchase many of them in different colours and patterns/textures for my studio. ... show more
