The magnet seems quite strong, but I wired it just in case anyways. It seems to heat my 5.9 quite well since I can see that my coolant is warming too. My soft plug heater went out and I didn't want to change it in the wintertime, so this was a good alternative.

Worth the cost ... saved my butt with the cold snap we just experienced! Didn't attach to the oil pan because it was made of aluminum, but I just leaned it against it and it worked great.

this unit is a good assist on our farm tractors on those colder than a well diggers butt mornings and we have cows to feed with that tractor so we all vote --pretty good deal

    • Didn't last one winter
I bought this device to keep my John Deere warm for the winter startups in Michigan. The heater looked to be of good quality. I keep my tractor indoors so it was not out in the weather, just in a cold barn. This spring as the weather turned a bit warmer, I went out to remove it from the tractor to save energy. To my surprise, I found the plastic cover laying on the ground. Upon closer inspection I found that the cover had melted and fallen off the heater. I then checked the heater and it was completely cold. It seems to have over heated and burned up the heating coil. It is completely dead. Did exactly what it said it would do and kept the engine oil pan on my 1969 FJ40 warm enough to start on 0° mornings. Plugged the unit in tonight and it tripped the breaker. Inspected unit and found no signs of damage. Plugged into different outlet and tripped the breaker again. I don’t want a refund, just want a replacement! ... show more
