The 5-leg base provides maximum stability for the instrument. The detachable metal leg base screws into the peg so that the entire unit may be stored in the bell of the instrument for easy transport. I have a much older K&M with 3 legs that will very rarely tip over. This 5 leg version does not have that issue. Also fits inside the bell for transport. Stand is padded and soft so surfaces won't scratch or dent your horn. Much nicer than the Chinese made knock offs. A little more cost, but worth every penny. This current version with 5 legs is much sturdier and safer than the old 3 or 4 legged version. Fits into my mute bag for easy transport to rehearsals and gigs and I keep my horns on one all day so they can dry out properly. I have dented the bell on one horn by ramming it onto the stand, so be careful. Overall, the best and easiest to carry stand I can find. ... show more

I had a different stand several years ago and it just never seemed very stable. The K&M stand offers good stability. It is easy to take to rehearsal as it fits inside the bell of my trumpet within my trumpet case. I highly recommend this product.

    • Excellent Design - Fits a Cornet!
Size: 5 Leg
The K&M in-bell 5 leg stand is an ultra compact stand that's easy to carry nestled into the bell of my Getzen cornet. When stored in the bell, it protrudes only about 1/4 inch. My cornet still fits nicely in its hard case with this bit of extra length. The cone shaped post is sturdy/heavy plastic with 3 protective felt pads around the perimeter which should eliminate scratching of the bell's lacquered finish. The tip of the cone is rubber, further protecting the bell as you insert/withdraw. The 5 legs are metal, and fold up to be stored within the body of the cone when collapsed. With the horn on the stand, the center of gravity is low positioning the bell just under 2 inches off the ground. Overall the stand feels sturdy, contributing to the confidence it will not randomly fall over - particularly with the 5 legs. The fit and finish are excellent; quality is first rate. The stand does not wedge firmly into the bell - exercise caution and hold it in place as you lift your horn into or out of your case! This is really intelligently engineered. There is no excuse for not carrying a stand for your cornet (or trumpet) anymore with this one! ... show more

Because the trumpet can sit out on it, it’s more likely to be picked up and played more often which was our mutual goal. K&M has a winner with this stand; it really does a nice job of holding a trumpet sturdily, and out of harm's way when an expanded intermission is called for. The 5-leg is the only way to go; the 3-leg is simply too tippy. I would give it 4.5 stars, but I'm not given that choice. The only reason this doesn't rate 5 stars is that it should come with a caveat for cornet players to be verrrrrrry careful about dropping a horn on it without first determining if the bell actually comes to rest on the felt pads or not. My Yamaha shepherd's crook horn does not, and I suspect that a careless move on my part may result in a circular crease on its! I carry a small, foam rubber ring in my cornet case to drop over the stand when it's used with the cornet. Works great! On the other hand, that's probably a 20-cent accessory K&M should include without my asking for it. So, be happy the stand is as good as it is; beware of its one, perceived shortcoming! ... show more
