This is a beautiful puzzle. The pieces are not wooden, but a very thick cardboard, and they have a thick textured gloss over them - like an Olan Mills photograph. The pieces fit together very snuggly, and are of an average puzzle piece size - and they seem to be uniform in shape and size. The pieces have the letters if which quadrant they go in printed on the backs of them - which seems to be a new trend with jigsaw puzzles. That would definitely help, and might be needed with this puzzle, as all the pieces are near identical to each other. Each quadrant comes preassembled inside the box. This is important to know, as if this is a gift, you would probably want to disassemble the pieces first before you have it to someone as a present. But, since the box is so small, and fits the assembled sections snuggly, I doubt that the unassembled puzzle would fit into the box that it came in. Just an FYI. But, it also comes with a beautiful print poster if the puzzle, which itself is worthy of a gift. ... show more
