UPDATE: Just got back from a five night camping trip and took the Extreme 4 because I knew the campground would be pretty empty immediately after Labor Day and sometimes You've just got to blast 90s Gangsta Rap in the wilderness... And it was glorious. It was also glorious with 1920s New Orleans Jazz, Hank Williams, Sr, The Clash, Mozart — whatever I threw at the Extreme 4, it handled beautifully with full, rich sound, well balanced and powerful. Here's the kicker, we probably used the speaker for five or six hours a night and we never even got close to needing the fully charged extra battery I brought along. Before the trip I purchased a rather nice hard case for the speaker that I could also have the extra battery and charging cables, etc as needed. The Extreme 4 is nothing short of amazing. Original Review I already owned a JBL Charge 4 speaker and it's great but I wanted something more powerful, with richer sound and better battery life — and boy did I get that with the Extreme 4! It's still a a manageable size for portability (it even has ca nice carry strap with a bottle opener built in). The sound is, in a word, fantastic. Big, booming bass when it's needed, but well balanced mids and high end, too. There's even a five point EQ available for the Extreme in the JBL app. Oh, did I mention the 24 hour battery life? It gets better, the battery is removable and you can purchase a second (or 10th if that's your thing) that is user swappable while still maintaining the water and dust proof qualities of the speaker. It’s very handy, has good battery life, size is ideal for taking along with you, and just enough volume and bass to satisfy a group of people. I think it was worth every penny paid for it. I think it's a great deal for the price, and is a good balance between having a loud & beefy speaker and having a speaker that is comfortable to move around. The only comment I would do, is that if you are planning to have a pool party or something of the sort, this will not be enough, additionally, as you increase the volume, the bass starts to lag in volume a bit. ... show more

This handy little speaker puts real punch in your phone, computer, or other blue tooth connected device. Unlike many other speakers where the bass is over done to the point where it sounds saturated and muddy, the JBL Extreme 4 produces ample highs and lows clean and balanced. The passive radiators on both ends leverage the acoustics of your room to produce punchy lows. Drums sound like drums, voices sound clean, all in a package small enough to go anywhere. The JBL app lets you fine tune it to wherever you go. You can even toss it into your luggage and bring your big sound with you. Can't say enough good things about JBL and their products.
