Description

This riveting sequel to the “glorious and touching” (USA TODAY) 1 New York Times bestseller picks up where It Ends with Us concluded and shares what happens next for Lily and Atlas. Lily and her ex-husband, Ryle, have just settled into a civil coparenting rhythm when she suddenly bumps into her first love, Atlas, again. After nearly two years separated, she is elated that for once, time is on their side, and she immediately says yes when Atlas asks her on a date. But her excitement is quickly hampered by the knowledge that, though they are no longer married, Ryle is still very much a part of her life—and Atlas Corrigan is the one man he will hate being in his ex-wife and daughter’s life. Switching between the perspectives of Lily and Atlas, It Starts with Us picks up right where the epilogue for the “gripping, pulse- pounding” (Sarah Pekkanen, New York Times bestselling author ) bestselling phenomenon It Ends with Us left off. Revealing more about Atlas’s past and following Lily as she embraces a second chance at true love while navigating a jealous ex-husband, it proves that “no one delivers an emotional read like Colleen Hoover” (Anna Todd, New York Times bestselling author). • Just keep swimming...
They finally made it to shore! I loved It Starts with Us even more than It Ends with Us. To get a glimpse of Atlas's past and feel how broken it was and how he turned into such a compassionate, thoughtful and loving man is inspiring. It gives hope in humanity that it's not all for nothing. Every act of kindness we do matters and can have an impact. Lily's bravery to stand up for herself and change her path is beautiful! Standing up for yourself and setting boundaries with someone that will be in your life forever is not always an easy thing, but it's necessary and I think Lily does that with such grace towards a man that has hurt her and broken her heart. I absolutely love Alyssa and Marshall!!! To have friends and family like that is such a blessing! ... show more

  • My heart!
I already had this book but oh my goodness I fell in love with the characters and the storyline almost immediately. The fact that they now have a movie is awesome but the books are so much better. I felt every emotion, love, heartbreak and worry while reading this. I was a little giddy at times and had a hard time putting it down but it arrived quickly and I was so anxious to begin reading I couldn't wait another second. ... show more

  • Highs and Lows
It has just the right amount of spice. I enjoyed seeing Lily and Atlas back together. I enjoyed the build-up and the journey to their happy ending. That being said, the last few pages were kind of a letdown. The ending felt rushed, and the final words were a little hokey and seemed off character for Atlas. ... show more

  • be my fish!
I’m going to be honest. I almost didn’t read this book after reading book one, even though I liked book one and rated it pretty high. I just wasn’t interested in moving on with the story. But then I watched the dang movie adaption of It Ends With Us and I had to read book two. It was worth it, even though this ebook cost more than a physical copy (publishers: that’s ridiculous and you need to get your pricing adjusted). But the story was much lighter and happier than the first book. The alternating POVs between Lily and Atlas were *MWAH* and I love the addition of finding more out about Atlas’s family. My only wish would have been an epilogue that showed the four of them as a family a few years following the wedding because I would have loved to see the interaction with Emerson. Read this if you like: •contemporary romance •second chance romance •single mother •FMC with a traumatic backstory •friends to lovers ... show more

  • ✨ 5 ✨
It Starts with Us was a beautifully written and heartwarming sequel to It Ends with Us. This was one of my most anticipated reads and it did not disappoint. Atlas and Lily deserved their happy ending and getting to read that was absolutely everything I wanted and more. Again this book picks up immediately after the ending of It Ends with Us, so I would highly recommend just reading that book first. I also suggest checking the content and trigger warnings before reading. It is dual POVs of Atlas and Lily and has a second chance romance and the found family trope. The premise of this book was definitely a lot lighter than the first book, as it focused more on accepting and fighting for love and family. The writing was amazing and just easy to read; I also loved the short chapters. The discussions regarding abuse, finding support and being a survivor was so powerful as well. While, there were some difficult and heartbreaking moments throughout the story, those moments were beautifully written and carefully handled. One of the most important parts of this book for me was that the author did not try or even insinuate a redemption for Ryle (Lily’s abusive ex-husband). He definitely did not deserve forgiveness and what he kept putting Lily through was heartbreaking, but I do understand how difficult that situation can be when a child is involved. So I just loved how strong and brave Lily was to stand up and do what was best for her daughter and herself. The romance between Atlas and Lily was incredible. I actually liked how they took their time and didn’t immediately jump into a relationship. All the history, banter, chemistry and spice between them was amazing. They both deserved their happily ever after especially with everything they went through, so being able to read that was so heartwarming. Atlas was honestly the most lovable, patient, understanding and considerate hero I have ever read. His letters and love for Lily was just everything anyone could hope for. He’s definitely the reason I loved this book as much as I did. All the side characters in this book were incredible. I loved the support and friendship Lilly had with Allysa (Ryle’s sister) and her husband, Marshall. Atlas bond with Theo (his friend’s teenage kid) and his half brother, Josh was amazing as well. There was no third act conflict or drama at the end, which I absolutely appreciated. Both Atlas’ and Lily fought enough for their happiness, so it was just nice to see them in love and with their family. Overall, just an absolutely beautiful and heartfelt read. ... show more

  • Not as Captivating as It Ends with Us
After reading It Ends with Us, I was eager to dive into It Starts with Us. The first book left such a strong emotional impact that I had high expectations for the sequel. Unfortunately, I found myself not as engaged with this follow-up. While it’s nice to see the characters’ stories continue, the pacing felt slower, and the emotional depth that hooked me in the first book didn’t quite carry over. The stakes felt lower this time around, and the narrative seemed more predictable. While I appreciated certain sweet moments and getting more closure for the characters, it didn’t have the same gripping intensity. Fans of the first book may enjoy revisiting these characters, but for me, it didn’t pack the same punch. Still, if you’re invested in the story, it’s worth a read to see how things unfold. ... show more

  • Didn't want it to end....
Saw the movie and loved it. When I found the followup book I was elated. The book is excellent and helped close doors in my mind. I'm sure it's not so easy in real life at times but it's always nice to be able to dream isn't it. A great read!
