  • This works absolutely great! Light weight and flexible so it’s easy for ...
Color: Black
I too bought this as a “flirt pole” which is used for training and/or to give dogs exercise. I myself purchased it to give my big dog more exercise. This works absolutely great! Light weight and flexible so it’s easy for me to control. My dog weighs about 115 lbs now so when I played tug-o-war (which he luvs) he’d about give me whip-lash since I don’t weigh quite as much as he does, and he’s sooo much stronger than I am. Duh! With this he chases a “knotted rope tug” I’ve cinched to the end. It already has a tightener on it so I didn’t have to add anything. At first I just used a couple long socks which he liked, but he likes the replacement knotted rope better now. I have a lot of large and heavy Kong toys for him which he loves, but these are too heavy for the whip in my opinion. Too dangerous, loss of control and may wear the whip out sooner than later(not sure). It’s holding up great and we use it a lot. He’s getting more exercise and I stay out of traction. Ha! I’ve read not to use this on pavement unless it’s always dragged on the ground to prevent joint damage to your dog from jumping. I use this on the lawn and usually just drag it across the ground with maybe a couple of jumps in so far. He tuckers out after about 10-15 minutes and that’s good enough for both of us. It’s a great work out for him. Make sure you let him catch it once in awhile or he might lose interest. Anyway, that’s what I do for my dog. I don’t let him have it too long though. I tell him to drop it and give him a simple treat. I had to do this in the beginning because he wasn’t very good at “drop it.” Now he’d rather chase so it’s really easy. I’m really happy with this low cost investment. I would have paid much more. My dog is getting some really good exercise and is much happier/healthier because of it. ***" "Verified Purchase" I came to give an update and noticed that this doesn't show as a "Verified Purchase" which it was. I bought it here from Amazon and left the review shortly after buying it. Maybe somebody here from Amazon can fix that? Hint! Hint! Anyway, I just wanted to state that my dog still luvs this way of playing 1/2 a year later. He did seem to lose some enthusiasm at one point, so a just replaced the toy with something else and he went crazy for it all over again. I always use light weight rubber toys so I can remove and wash them after each play session. The whip itself has held up like new except for a small amount of fraying at the very end of the string(easy fix) and has had no impact on its use because there is plenty of string to wrap around a toy. This is by far the very best investment I've made for my dog as far as toys go, and I've bought many, many toys.... ... show more

  • Amazing Flirt toy for my Great Dane puppy
Color: Black
EDIT: Since this review I still love this whip but found a similar one that is a bit smaller that would work better for kids. I'm getting one for my granddaughter who loves to play with the puppy but the larger whip is too big and she can't get the flirt toy off the ground. Here is the smaller 3' whip: Tough-1 Youth 3' Black Training Whip for Parelli Training Method Horse Tack ------------------------------------------------------- ORIGINAL REVIEW: I have a 13 week Great Dane puppy dog (about 38lbs) and she LOVES this thing. I had been looking for something to help tire her out without tiring me out so much and this fits the bill perfectly. She normally gets bored with her soft toys after playing a few minutes since they "die" unless I am constantly running around with it trying to keep it exciting. With this lunge whip, I can tie any one of her favorite soft toys onto the end and she is so fascinated with it that she can not leave it alone. I use this on the lawn and usually just "hop" it along the flat ground. I get her to jump just a little at this age but she's content to just run around in circles chasing it. I can imagine a smaller more energetic breed would go wild jumping at this thing. I let her catch it and play tug with it occasionally, and even our 12 year old yellow lab gets in on the action. So far this thing shows NO signs of wearing out anytime soon. Of course I would never let her just chew on it when I'm not around, this is strictly an interactive toy with a human. When she tires out it goes in the closet until next time. I feel this is well worth the reasonable price for this purpose. This type is way better than the ones that they make specifically for dogs. I was a little hesitant to buy this thing because its so long but it's light as a feather and the length is a huge bonus in the end. If you are thinking of getting a flirt toy for your dog look no further, this is the one! ... show more

  • Best money I ever spent
I first bought this several years ago to try and wear out a very hyper puppy. Very, very hyper puppy. It was life changing. He loved chasing this and would play with it all day if he could. Cut ahead a few years and he still gets beyond excited when it comes out. Great way to burn off that Last bit of energy after dinner without me having to expend a lot ;). It's better than a laser pointer because he can actually catch it and then tug of war ensues, which he needs and the leverage this provides makes it an almost fair fight against my 70 lb boxer-lab mix. I found I don't even need to tie a toy to it. He is happy just chasing the cord on the end, though it makes it harder for him to tug on. It is extremely durable but with the abuse he's given it I tend to replace every 14-18 months. But it is cost effective enough that it is no problem. I completely recommend this for anyone with a dog that needs to burn off a lot of excess energy or a low energy dog you are trying to encourage to play. ... show more

  • Used it to make a chase-it for our puppies
I was going to purchase a chase it toy for our puppies, but read that the toy's quality has declined. I searched the web for alternatives & found several DIY posts & YouTube videos demonstrating how to make your own. I chose the easiest way & I think the most durable way to make my own chase it. I purchased an Intrepid International Lunge Whip & tied an old white sock to the end. The pups love chasing the sock & the lunge whip has been taking all sorts of abuse. It appears to be made very well & flexes when the pups tug on the sock. I was surprised at how long the pole & handle are...they are nearly as tall as me. I didn't measure, but estimate that the pole with handle is about 63" long. The handle is comfortable & easy to grip. The rope/whip hangs about 6' and the lash on the end is about 12" long. We tie the sock to the lash. The Intrepid International Lunge Whip makes a fun, durable, dog toy. ... show more
