  • So helpful!
Before I read this book I felt conversationally trapped in the complicated web of constitutional rights. This book gave me a whole new perspective and opened up the endless frontier that really exists in the realm of interviewing and interrogations. This book covers: Interviewing victims. They offer many strategies on how you can help someone recall an event from the interviewing environment to the order in which questions could be asked. Interviewing and interrogating suspects. They address how to build rapport, how to lead a conversation by listening to the suspect so that you can change your strategy in the middle of the conversation. They give some ideas on how to use Miranda rights to your favor in rapport building. (Yay!) How to detect deception, cut off denial, and strategies on how and when to push for a confession. They have sample conversation with examples of do's and don't's as well as simple examples of how to say even one statement or question better. They do not promote these concepts as the ultimate answer, for every situation and suspect, environment and investigator is different. But for me it sparked my imagination and helped me break out from the mental box my perspective had me trapped in. I would highly recommend this book! ... show more

  • This text is a very good entry point into interviewing
This text is a very good entry point into interviewing. I've read it twice now, and took copious notes on it the second time, and learned a ton both times. I would recommend you read this before you delve into larger texts on the subject. It helped me understand a lot of the Reid method when I read into that. If you are a rookie cop you have to realize that you aren't going to get minimal training at academy and reading this prior to hitting the street will give you a great head start above your peers and help you close cases. Start here and continue reading other works once you're done. ... show more

  • Confession can clear the soul - per the author
I use this book and some others to improve my technique for evangelism. All people, in my opinion, need Jesus Christ, in their life, their inner life and their outer life. It is important to know what people are struggling with and the tools they are currently using to cope, before I can understand more of their life. People may not have a crime to confess, but they will have a mental addiction of some sort and after listening to them, their evasions and their lies, I can choose the right Bible verses for their situation. Then they will have the power of God working on their hearts and me as a friend to encourage them and stand by patiently as God does His work. ... show more
