I was really curious about tteokbokki, but also a bit hesitant since I’m the biggest baby ever about spicy food. This flavor is 100% non-spicy, and is a great introduction to the dish if you want to try tteokbokki but can’t handle the heat of the regular version. I cooked it in a small saucepan, and it was ready in about 10mins start to finish. DELICIOUS! The creamy onion sauce is perfect, if a bit on the sweet side. The rice cakes had a fun, soft-chewy texture & were very easy to eat. The only drawback is the price; you do get 2 packs, but it still works out to about $6 per serving. The portion size is fairly small, too, much to my leftover-loving self’s disappointment. Still, a great occasional treat! ... show more

Got the garlic butter and it was amazing! It is slightly sweet and garlicky. I should’ve taken a pic but it was so good I couldn’t! I can’t wait to try the other flavors…oh and the rice “cakes” have the texture of mozzarella cheese. Loved it!

I've been going around amazon trying different easy tteokbokki kits. I'm not Korean, I'm not chef, but I have tried tteokbokki in korean restaurants and have made a batch from scratch before. For this, I made the kit by itself without any additives (chives, egg, etc) so I could taste the flavor first. This kit was easy to make and the directions were simple. The sauce was odd in my opinion, but I'm the wrong person to judge it. Here were my observations: The sauce thickened and had a flavor profile that reminded me of ketchup. Of course, there were some hints of gojuchang and chili powder, which gave it a nice intermediate spice. Unlike other kits I tried, when boiled this sauce had the consistency of a thick stew (like tomato paste / chef boyardee microwave pasta). As a result, the sauce was a bit more watery than I expected. Other kits I tried had sauces that were a bit more stickier like a sugary syrup with a stronger gojuchang flavor profile... so I suppose all of this depends on your preference. Overall, the tteokbokki was tasty! I ate it all. For those searching for tteokbokki, if you want to have a smoother (not sticky) sauce with stronger tomato flavoring and intermediate spice, this is your pick. ... show more

Tasty, chewy rice cakes that are super quick and easy to make- practically heat and eat. Spicier than I expected (was expecting cheese flavor to be mild) so I quickly reached the limit of my tolerance and had to take a break and drink some milk. Lost stars because the portion size is not worth the price. (It may be worth checking your local Korean grocers before buying this online.) A single pack is a good snack for two but falls well short of a meal for two. Works well as a side dish for 3-4. The English directions are confusing. It just says to add rice cakes, sauce, and water to the pan. The picture shows adding the sauce mix to the water but we didn't see it until we'd already dumped everything together into the pan. This resulted in difficulty getting rid of lumps in the sauce. I recommend treating it like macaroni and cheese sauce mix (slowly stirring or whisking it in as the last step) to get the best results. ... show more

I saw this on a video on Facebook where they added mozzarella. I of course had to try it. I liked that this was sweet and spicy so I decided to try it. It’s delicious and it’s a great portion. I got the combo set since I had never had tteokbokki before and didn’t know enough to pick a specific flavor. I wish I had just gotten two of the sweet and spicy because the cheese flavor was just not for me, I think there was an herb or something in the powder to mix with the water that I really don’t like because I couldn’t finish my leftovers. Anyways yeah sweet and spicy very good flavor, be careful on the cheese one if you’re not expecting anything other than a cheesy flavor. ... show more
