  • Excellent upgrade from basic
I bought this to upgrade from a basic Neewer desktop boom mic stand. having the springs being internal are great! This innogear stand is much firmer with no noticeable wobble when moving it. I also have to mics attached at the top and it holds them in place without drooping. The small silver arm at the top, where you attach your mic holder to, is also longer than on my old stand which accommodates attaching my pop filter to. Glad I got this. ... show more

  • The basics with nice looks.
This item comes nicely packaged in plastic and a carboard box with a product code of MU028-RD. Upon removing the item from its box, it was easy to get it clamped on to the desk I am using. There is a little metal frame around the edge that is ~1" square tube, and it was able to hold on well. It helps that the clamping mechanism is a solid aluminum C-Clamp with some added foam on the top to protect surfaces. Nothing fancy looking, but it functions very well. Assembly is easy, slide the scissor arm into the clamp you just put on, screw on a mic, and your good to go! The grip and range of motion is good for a scissor arm, and this one looks nice. I did compare this to the PSA28-RD version which is suppose to be "deluxe" with a larger/upgraded clamp, added cable management, and a headphone hook. While the added "hidden cable" feature of the upgraded version is nice, the base arm used in these two models is identical. And the "upgraded clamp" is plastic, with minimal contact to the desk. The full metal c-clamp of this version seems to grip much better for me without taking up as much space. My main disappointment in this microphone arm is that the little piece on the bottom side of the clamp is plastic and not metal.... Though it is a solid enough piece of plastic, with large surface area, to clamp just fine on a flat surface as directed. For the money, I love this base model. The scissor arm is study, the clamp is solid, and it comes with a few cable ties where you can retain you mic cable. Good value overall, and looks nicer than other models I've seen with exposed springs. ... show more

  • Must have for podcast or talking head video.
I can not say enough good things about this item. I got a rather hefty USB mic (Yeti) and wanted to mount and swing out of way when not in use. Well, I was so relieved that this was the answer to my prayers. Here are my highlights on this. 1. heavy duty metal that feels secure and robust 2. springs are tight but very movable when needed 3. up and down movement stays where you put it and does not dip over time 4. easy to mount on my desk with included screw system. Just make sure you have a flat area to attach it to. It will not work if your desk has curved or scrolled edges. 5. Holds my mammoth mic in place and even came with Velcro straps to keep the cables in place. 6. Does not bounce when you move it and get it in position. 7. Adjustable mic adaptor lets you put it in up or down orientation. whichever suits you best. 8. If for some reason it comes loose, you can tighten all the articulation points with a Allen wrench. I highly recommend this to all that need a good mic stand for their youtube/podcast table. I can't wait to put this in action a lot more in the near future when I get my studio all set up. ... show more

  • Too stiff
Way too stiff to be useful. Moving the microphone up lifts the arm out of the socket half the time, which means to adjust it, you need to use two hands: one to hold the middle joint ant the other to move the microphone.

  • Great for a somewhat narrow use case
When reviewing a microphone arm I'm looking for ultimate flexibility, I want something that almost disappears because it's that easy to use and allows me to focus on my job and not fighting with the equipment. This is not that item. However it does have some redeeming qualities. Like: - Easy to assemble - Joints hold steady when tightened - Springs are counterbalanced nicely and really disappear the way you want them to - Hook and loop cable ties are provided which is a really nice touch Improvements: - The C clamp is not very deep, if you have a beveled desk or chamfered edges... you may not be able to use this item. It opens wide enough, but needs a nice flat surface for the entire jaw, which is about 1 inch deep. I've included a picture. This worked on my uplift desk but not on a countertop surface. - No included microphone mount. Most microphones come with a mount, but in this case it would be nice to have even a basic mount in case you own a second-hand microphone. - Very linear, any motion you get from this arm will be lateral or from the pivot point. Use a microphone mount that provides a ball joint or similar to get the most out of this arm. Overall it could be better value for the price, the linear nature and lack of microphone mount are difficult enough but that C clamp really hurts. For live work or tight positions you might look elsewhere. If you are in a studio or home office environment where you have the liberty to setup beforehand and leave the microphone in one spot (more or less) then this should work great for you! ... show more

  • Noticeable difference!
I have been hosting, producing, recording and editing podcasts for a very long time. I have several different types of mic stands to use. I usually go with cheaper mic stands because a lot of my podcast projects were/are recorded on location. So they travel with me heavily. However, recently, I moved into a new home with more space. This includes and additional bedroom in which to make into a podcasting studio. I upgraded my mic stands to these InnoGear and WOW, I gotta say... these InnoGear Boom Arm Mic Stands are a night and day difference to my old Neewer ones. The Neewer ones have the exterior springs and can be VERY noisy when bumped or hit. Which can be an editing nightmare because of the noise those springs make. But the InnoGear stand is so much more quiet and fluid when you adjust it. I use the Donner PO-8 Dynamic Microphones and this stand holds them with ease and stability. This is a great product, BUT I think that price point is a bit high. Overall, FIVE STARS! ... show more
